Colts signed CB Keon Lyn (Syracuse). 6'1", 201 lbs, 4.49 40. Did not finish last year after knee fracture, otherwise may have been drafted.

Congrats to @RomeSmith45 for signing with the Falcons! Another 'Cuse player going to my hometown team!

Those were pretty quick FA signings. I figured it would be either Sunday or Monday before hearing anything.

Nobody waits anymore.

The Giants have already made deals with 6-7 UDFA's.

I like Jerome Smith, seems to handle himself well both on and off the field, but I have to wonder what his train of thought was when he decided to leave when he had eligibility remaining. Even the most optimistic outlook had him a 5-7 round pick. I wish him luck as he tries to make the Falcons, but can't help but wonder if another year would have helped him at all. (I am not claiming it would have helped, just wondering...)

Perhaps saw the writing on the wall in terms of the depth chart for this coming season? He was a solid, reliable player but the guys that were behind him last year offer a bit more big play potential and versatility.

would he be faster?

Both valid points. He already split time in the past, so maybe he figured splitting time with three other backs would do more harm than good. Speed wasn't going to improve, but there are other parts of his game that may have improved given another year of development and experience.

It was pretty universal even before his subpar workouts that he was very far from a lock to be drafted. I understand guys who leave early when they are pretty sure to be drafted (regardless of the round). I don't understand guys who leave early when all indications point to them not being drafted at all. I could also understand if he already earned his degree and simply wanted to move on and was willing to take his chances in the draft knowing he had his education to fall back on. Did he finish up his coursework?

I believe he got his degree but could be wrong. I assumed he got his degree and decided he had acheived all he could as a college RB.

If anything, I think Smith should have done the "last year of eligibility at a new school where you can be better showcased" thing.

Do starters usually do that? Seems like more of a thing for QB's who don't play but think they are amazing.
