Watched some of Jesse & Joe last night then peeked at their stats.

Feel bad for Jesse. His team does not look well and does not play like I'm used to seeing WVU play. His dad put him in a bad situation. I hope the money was worth it. He put up some points here and there, but it was like watching youth soccer, lots of back and forth and clumps of athletes, but little scoring. That said, he is having his best season statistically and is near the top of the B12 in rebounding and blocks.

Feel good for Joe. Just saw some highlights of him drilling some off the catch 3s, with his crazy quick release and the net barely moving. On the season, his stats have dipped relative to his career numbers. However, his team's scoring seems well balanced (at least in last nights game) with the top 5 all getting 12-15 or more. He is in a good situation.

With both here, we would be in a better situation. With only one of the two, I think our record is still the same.

Good luck to both of them.

Good luck? I was never a fan of losing Joe and that is exactly what we are missing here this year…leadership we don’t have it and we stink right now. I love the ability of some of these players but if you don’t have leadership on the team at some point your dunk. You don’t see them together talking in the huddle you see guys yawning in the bench…nothing has looked really good this year…hope red can turn it around with his vision of players

'Good Luck' because they are and will forever be Syracuse players, just like most of the players we support who went to SU. I'm not going to root for their failure, unless they play SU.

Interesting to speculate whether either could lead this group of individuals. I wonder if they could have...

Right I understand the purpose behind the good luck. I’m frustrated that we don’t have these two pieces to our team which with any coaching change these things happen but it’s the reason we are what we are right now…hopefully if Wes try comes back we can change some things

Nope no interest in cheering these guys on this year Joe smoking us twice will make me sick and Jesse would have been a desperately needed senior presence we have freaking Benny as our elder statesman now ffs.

I was more interested in how they were doing, as opposed to cheering them on. But yeah, I do wish them luck, as they seemed like good kids.

Honestly, I am fine with moving on from both these guys. To me they represent an era of Syracuse that I would like to forget. Obviously this was not all their fault but I am fine with moving on and letting Red create the team he wants, and yes there will be bumps in the road but honestly I would not want to see Joe trying to play up tempo man to man and bombing ridiculous threes, we have seen enough of the latter for the last four years.
I agree that I'd like to forget the family reunion years.

That said I would much rather have Joe throwing up ridiculous threes over some of the folks we have throwing up ridiculous threes.

As for Jesse is it me or does he look like he's added some muscle since leaving our stalwart S&C program?

Losing Jesse when we did and without much warning was tough blow. But there are four centers on the roster (30% of the roster) and we're still playing an undersized PF there for significant minutes. Maliq with another inch or two and 30-40 lbs would be fine. And while he's pretty athletic relatively, he needs another 3-4 inches of vertical to really challenge shots. Sucks. but whatever, it's past.

Joe was just never put in a position to succeed here, to maximize his abilities here, which is on JAB. He was a fine shooter, but he was asked to be too much: a PG, a driver, to create his own shot, a 34 mpg lead scorer. His 2pt FGA are down compared to what he took here (39% of his total FGA as a frosh, 42% as a soph, 39% as a Jr, and 47% as a senior, compared to 32% at Clemson). And he's attempting slightly fewer shots this year than he had in his 4 years at SU. His assists per 100 poss are similar to his time at SU, but his TO% has been cut in half at Clemson. Brownell is using him as he should: keep him off the ball and get him quality looks and boy is he taking advantage.

I don't mean to pile on Starling, but Joe would be a significant upgrade in my opinion in that spot. I never thought I'd say that and HOPE JJ can get it going. He will never be the shooter that Joe is though but right now, I cringe every time he shoots (even driving to the basket).

Jesse is the one I think would make a big difference. With Bell, JT, and Mintz, maybe we will be okay from 3pt.

Different positions. It wouldn't be a 'one or the other' situation. I'd prefer both.

As to the up tempo playing style Red supposedly wants to play, it certainly hasn't been on display this year. Joe would keep up with the tempo we've been playing just fine. His defense is subpar, no argument there. But the team's defense has been far from good, so it's tough to see his liability there mattering a whole lot.
Agreed. Clemson plays better defense than us and he is doing fine and playing 30+ minutes. His defense would not stand out one or the other on this Cuse team

I never felt good about losing Jesse. That was a tough one. Joe, on the other hand, I (like many here) felt good about it with JJ coming. It seemed like the best for all parties involved. Now it appears that it was only the best for Joe. :( Hopefully that will change, but not so sure based on what I've seen thus far from that position.

It's more about the Jesses and Joes than the Xs and Os.

I think we'd be a lot better with either one on this team, certainly with both. We lack a difference-making center and need another shooter, since JJ has really struggled, which wasn't expected. Continuity really matters and their experience in the program and in a power league would really make a difference.
