Jim Calhoun getting his Floyd Mayweather on

Damn, he hit him harder than I thought he would.

When I read "jab to the gut", I took it as a fist bump to the gut.

That was definitely a jab to the gut. Calhoun has some serious anger issues. Totally out of line.

People misconstrued the interaction with Daniels according to Calhoun. Sure, Jim.

There's a 4 page thread on boneyard about how ridiculous this is and that Calhoun did nothing wrong.

Quite comical actually.

I watched this without the sound (in case I need to get myself out of something later I guess). But I hope you are being serious. This is nothing. Absolutely nothing. If it becomes a big issue, just another example of our mamsy pamsy soft society.

You think a coach should be allowed to place their hand on a player like that? Obviously it didn't hurt Daniels, but that's not the issue; Calhoun has no authority to do something like that.

It's disrespectful to the player, especially in front of thousands of people.

I think football coaches should be allowed to grab kids by the facemask as long as the intent is not to rip their head off or injure. This was NOTHING. Mark it down: N-O-T-H-I-N-G. No harm was done at all.

Kids are too coddled these days with too many things handed to them. The general sense of entitlement and disrespect it breeds is ridiculous.

And yes, I also think youth soccer teams should KEEP SCORE (at all ages). The horror! (that someone might lose). Guess what? You lose in life. Figure out how to deal with it.

Oh yeah, I'm 39...not some 65 yr old bitching about the old days.

I dunno, I really don't think coaches should be grabbing or "jabbing" players. I can't seem to load the video, so I'm not going to comment on this situation specifically.

The whole situation reminds me of this scene (fast forward to 1:30). Of course, I don't see Calhoun getting all romantic with Barbara Hershey anytime soon.

I'm with 44cuse on this. Anyone who is making this out to be a big deal is a pu$$y. My HS wrestling coach would occasionally punch one of us on the shoulder - much, much harder than what JC did here. You know what? it was always necessary and we all knew it. No one ever complained. Then again, we weren't a society full of wussies in the 80s, like we have become now.

I'm not a Calhoun fan, but this is nothing. Maybe he needs to be watched so that he doesn't turn into Bobby Knight or Woody Hayes. I am far more put off by the KSt coach's antics.

Just a love tap.
Nothing to see here... not an issue.

Personally, I think it's a lot of nothing. However, I remember weeks of negative coverage last year when JB pulled Fab from a game after 30 seconds, or whatever it was. People going on and on about how it's a total lack of respect and unbecoming of a coach to act that way.

This is worse than that, by comparison. Let them run with it.

Well, that';s exactly what he did. He jabbed him. That said, completely innocuous.

Really doesn't matter either way as there is absolutely no way ESPN pushes this story since it is about UConn. And we all know that unless ESPN covers/pushes it, then it is not a big deal!!

I have three girls between the ages of 3 and 8 and they all hit harder than that.. Good lord, move on.

This isnt just happening in sports.. The Army is turning soft as hell. You can hardley swear at these younger soldiers anymore, with out them crying. The new unit I'm at doesnt even smoke people anymore, they dont want to hurt anyones feelings.. Its ridiculous
