Florida State and athletic director Stan Wilcox announced Tuesday that Fisher has signed a new eight-year extension, one that will run through the 2022 season. Per the announcement, the contract "will include an increase in salary that will make him one of college football's highest paid coaches."

Specific financial details were not disclosed, with the release stating "the University is still working through some details of the contract and will release the document once it is complete." Fox Sports reported the contract would average $5.5 million per-season -- a substantial raise on Fisher's previous salary of $3.6 million, and enough to make him one of the handful of best-paid coaches in college football.

That's some crazy money, but it's definitely deserved. His numbers are also crazy.
Through 5 seasons...
58-10 record
4-0 bowl record
13-5 record against ranked opponents
3 conference championships
1 national championship

And maybe the biggest...7-1 vs Miami/Florida. And 5-1 vs. the SEC so far.

It's very encouraging to see the ACC locking up their good coaches...Fisher, Cutcliff, Swinney, Addazio. Pitt getting Narduzzi is big too. The coaching has not always been there in the ACC. It's promising.

coaching has been the biggest issue for sure Lou.

and yes its good to see the coaches staying put or for the school to at least get a nice payday when said coach leaves.

the ACC has always had talent, the NFL draft proves that every year...its just theres just not enough brains to get all of it working together at the same time.

the Atlantic could turn into such a beast that they will have to break it up.

Keeping coaches is half of it. It looks like that is happening, which is good.

The other half is saying good bye to coaches that just aren't cutting it. London (should have been gone already), Golden, Shafer, and probably Fedora should be in make or break years. Those schools need to be ready to jettison and upgrade if they don't show that they can maximize the program's potential. Improvement isn't enough in my mind, or you get into the UVA cycle with London. You have to show that you're the guy to get the most out of the program. I don't think Golden shows that by improving to 7-5. If Shafer goes 6-6? It will depend on how it looks. Were they better than advertised? Or did they fall bass-ackwards into a couple wins while looking generally inept again?

The ACC just has to be more savvy about cutting coaches loose than they have been. But holding on to successful guys is a great step.

In my opinion, Shafer set the bar low enough this year for 6-6 to be viewed as real improvement next year. Maybe it is, who knows. Schedule right now looks like 0-3 without taking a snap. 0-4 if you think Louisville can sustain since we're playing down there.

I think our direction and younger talent on D is good enough for what we should expect. But it will be rough going early as we'll be breaking in too many new guys.

The real key is offense, and we're changing offensive systems (yet again). We play in a Dome and should be trying to market ourselves as such. Leave the northeast lunch pail, hardnosed garbage for outdoor teams like Pitt and BC. We need to be all about spreading out the field and finding as much speed as we can. We would play maybe 2 games per year in cold weather.
