They didn't really gain anything.

2019, 8-8 record; loss to ND in 1st round
2020, 2-4 record when season cancelled.

A quarter scholarship usually is one player not getting a scholarship for the year since the overall limit is 12.69. Like Jeremy says, this was a minor paperwork problem.
