Just watched the Chris Herren ESPN documentary and it did a great job of showing you how intense these kind of addictions can be. Now we get the news that Josh Hamilton had a relapse with alcohol the other night. I see alot of what Josh is going through in that documentary about Chris Herren. The intensity of the addiction with drugs/alcohol/despair. I hope and pray Josh can pick himself up from this, gotta wonder if the fans death from the ball he tossed into the outfield is weighing on him. I really worry about him when he finishes his career...I hope by then hes become strong enough to face his demons and crush them.

I've never gone through addiction, or the process of getting over an addiction, but I kind of think they are blowing this relapse out or proportion.. Compared to what the guy used to be into, I don't see the problem with 3 or 4 beers.. And the fact that he had 3 or 4 beers should not be newsworthy stuff.. None of our business.. Right?

Except the fact that everyone knows he had a problem and he is out in public doing it, that makes it the big deal I guess. He had to know people were going to take pictures and talk about it when he decided to order. If he stayed home and had a few then yeah, no big deal.

Either way, I agree it doesn't really deserve the attention its getting, but that's what ESPN does.

If you read the SI article about him before he made it back, you would know why, for him, it's a big deal.

It's a big deal because Josh is very outspoken about trying to use his life as an inspiration for others with similar struggles. That can't be easy, especially when there are many people out there that want to see him fail. Either because they want to justify their own personal views that religion is a joke, or because it might allow them to point to others who have failed as an excuse for their own shortcomings. Then there is that little 90-million dollar extension issue. Agree though, if this was an average joe, you are talking about a mere stumbling block, meaning that tomorrow would be greeted as a new opportunity to start fresh... as opposed to press conferences and a filled voicemail boxes.
