He gave it a 10.0 on the boldness scale due to #1 strength of schedule in the ACC, 98th in retuning production and got hit in the portal.
"Making a bowl game this year is a big win for them all things considering. So, they're not...I mean, Fran Brown can use this all he wants to. Forget about the playoff talk with Syracuse. Like, that is a tough, tough draw this year. So that is a 10 for me"

I think a lot of us, in our calm, sober, and rational moments, would agree with this. It doesn't mean we can't hope for better. We could win it all...but seven wins plus a Bowl game (another win, hopefully) would be acceptable (with a few caveats that don't need to be hashed out at the moment).

I did like when he said you can use this. It sounds like he would like to see Cuse prove him wrong.

This year will be tough. Next year though I truly think they have a real shot with all the guys they will have coming back and Angeli being in year 2. They could do some serious damage and make some noise. Team is super young this year

That's what this year is all about. If you look at that schedule, I could see us winning 6 or 7 games - if pretty much every toss up game breaks in our favor.

Fran probably looks at that schedule and says, "there are six high profile games on this schedule, and if we can win 3 of them, we are going to have a great year."

Although that would make a ton of sense, I can assure you he does not look at it this way. He doesn't want to hear about going 3-3 ever. Now they may go 0-6 but Fran isn't praying for a 50-50 split versus anyone. It's just not who he is.

I want to agree... but the way the game is today, it's difficult to talk about who will be back and make predictions based on that.

I really think you gotta take every season as its own entity, and assume the reset button will get pushed to some degree each offseason.

The schedule is a lot of hard games and almost no gimmies. I just hope we all stay fairly calm/big picture focused if the season ends up being rough. But I said before last season that Fran and his staff just don't seem like guys who fail. And also said that last year's schedule was going to prove to be much tougher than it looked on the surface. I was right about both. We played a ridiculous number of 8+ win teams last season.

So while I think we could struggle, I kind of have a great feeling about next season. I think there's a lot of talent on the roster waiting to be unleashed.

And he’s correct. That would mean we had our best season since when… 95? And against a very tough schedule, no less.

He was on the Syracuse bandwagon before the season started last year, thought Brown was a great hire and that we could win 10 games. Pate is one guy who I think puts actual thought and analysis in his predictions - I don’t have any issue with his comments here.

Fran's gonna use this also!;)

Yep. The more you expect back, the more disappointed you'll probably be. The less you expect to transfer in, the more pleasantly surprised you'll be.

Building a program feels like a dead concept.

Figures that we finally get a coach who can recruit as well as anyone, and recruiting seems less interesting to me than ever. I just can't get invested in it anymore.

Indeed. What if one of our two QBs has a phenomenal year and we overachieve in terms of wins. And the other one doesn’t play much. There’s a non-trivial chance that both transfer after the season! One to get more money and the other to get playing time.

It’s the state of college sports. Just enjoy the yearly ride and don’t count on *anything* in the future.

It's now hard to get excited for a commit months out from signing day. I blame LaNorris Sellers for that!

Good thing Fran can relate to transfers as well as high school kids.
