Now that's a steal.

Merced (California) College cornerback Devron Davis could have played Division I football at Oklahoma, Nebraska, West Virginia, Louisville, Pittsburgh, South Carolina, Utah or Washington State. Eight schools from Power 5 conferences offered him, but he turned them down.

He wanted to play for Mike Bobo at CSU.

Davis, 6-foot, 210 pounds, announced via Twitter on Wednesday that after a successful visit to Fort Collins over the weekend, he has committed to play at Colorado State University in 2016.

Davis is rated a three-star recruit by the 247Sports composite score and ranked as the 54th best JUCO player in the nation. As a freshman at Merced last season, he had 33 tackles, a fumble recovery, three interceptions and brought one of those back for a touchdown. As a kick returner, Davis averaged 18.8 yards per touch with a long of 50 yards.

His Hudl profile says he can run the 40-yard dash in 4.4 seconds, benches 295 pounds and squats 385 pounds with a 34 1/2 inch vertical.

Davis is the Rams' seventh commitment of the 2016 class and fifth in the past week.

The kid's got offers from everyone. Do we have a shot?

I think the staff is starting to realize that a few of the kids expected to make a jump this year aren't good enough.

Hopefully the redshirt freshmen Dowels and Hudson can show something more, but Whigham & Morgan have not done what is needed at that position.

Like a cornerback trying to reel in an interception, the Rams had Devron Davis and lost him. Of course, it was of no fault of the Rams. After news broke that Colorado State had landed the former three-star cornerback Wednesday, offers from other schools of the Power 5 conferences came in.

On Sunday, Davis announced via Twitter he has de-commited from CSU:

The other offers which likely made him reevaluate things? They were from Louisiana State of the South Eastern Conference and Arizona State of the Pac-12. The lure of playing for a program that could one day compete for the National Championship probably helped Davis make the decision.

According to Colorado Sate’s Rivals page, the Rams’ 2016 recruiting class consists of six players currently. Davis was the only cornerback, but CSU and head coach Mike Bobo have landed four three-star players so far. More players will be added soon.

Top 4 of Florida St, Nebraska, Oregon and UCLA as of mid July. Not sure if anything has changed there.

First, he was committed to CSU, then came out with a Top 4, now he's coming out with a Top 5. What's going on here?
other schools have gotten involved, possibly some that were favored earlier have backed off or already filled that spot

as long as SU is in the latest and greatest Top 5 I don't care :)
