I wonder if this offer might have been made in part to put pressure on Herring?

It looks like the staff has decided we are taking a JUCO OL this spring. If Herring wants the spot, he needs to step up or Lee might take it from him.

MAKYI LEE - Coffeyville CC (redravenathletics.com)

From GRIDIRON FOOTBALL USA IN 2020 per above link as a senior in HS:

Lee is a 6’6” 300 LB five star offensive lineman from East Jefferson High School in Metairie Louisiana. Lee is considered to be not only one of the best offensive linemen in Louisiana but also the nation, he is currently rated as the 9th ranked offensive lineman in the entire class of 2020. Lee rated out scoring perfect 10/10’s that involves his height, weight, strength hand technique and footwork.

Linemen with initial position completely inside the tackle box may legally block below the waist inside the tackle box until the ball leaves the tackle box. All other Team A players are allowed to block below the waist only if the force of the initial contact is directed from the front. “Directed from the front” is defined as within the clock face region between “10 o’clock and 2 o’clock” forward of the area of concentration of the player being blocked.*
