Another "under the radar" Marrone recruit has Miami, Wiscy, and Indiana trying to flip him late (according to John Garcia). The guy knows what he's doing.

I really hope we keep him. One of the recruits I am really excited about.

He said Indiana has an offer out to him.

So do I. Kid had 10 picks in the best level of football in Florida, and at one of the best football schools. And he has like a 4.0 GPA. We need to hang onto him.

FWIW Garcia does not think he flips before signing day

Isn't Whigham originally a NYC kid, with family still there? I thought that was the big connection.

We see this every year and it's bittersweet. It's nice for him to have other teams after him but not if they actually steal him.

Per the unwashed masses:
When we landed him "no stars, no other big offers. Marrone can't recruit!"
IF we lose him "He was going to be a huge star and our coaches lost him! Marrone can't recruit!"
If we keep him "no stars, and no other listed offers. Marrone can't recruit!"

Bottom line, we need to keep this kid. A 4.0 gpa guy in the secondary to go with other 4.0 gpa guys like Ford, Mungwa. Smart, fast, and talented group... sign me up!

man, i couldn't imagine what would happen around here if we had a recruit flip to BC.

Ha BC just lost Kuechly too, they're gonna suck next year.

Miami picked up Deon Bush ... don't think they will be pursuing whigham now

Maybe he'll get bumped to 4 stars, just by the teams interested in him now? ;)

Syracuse - ACC (Commit)
Boston College - ACC
Miami - ACC
Indiana - B1G
Wisconsin - B1G Rose Bowl runner up
South Florida - Big East
NIU - MAC Champs

I like the teams we're going up against, that's who I want our recruits getting attention from in the future.

I noticed that he's not ranked anymore as a safety. The old site has him now as a CB and is currently unranked. Interesting to see where he ends up at when evaluated for that position

He is being looked at as a cb. Miami is out of the picture for now.

Glad Miami is out the only real school I was afraid of.

Since I still have a scout subscription...here's a few tidbits from an article on him yesterday

He's visiting Syracuse Jan 20th
Coach Shafer was visiting with him this weekend
He ran a 4.55 in the 40 recently and is running track in the spring
Staff told him originally he would redshirt at CB but now he may have a chance to compete for 3rd or 4th CB
Sounds pretty solid from interview on Jan 6 (although his mom went to Miami)

Redshirt? :-(

I really hope he gets the RS... not as much due to the fact I think he NEEDS one, but just because the upside is so nice that seeing a year wasted, ala Reddish and Desir, would just sadden the hell out of me. I get why those guys were called upon... but if the DBs can avoid the injury bug this time around, then Lyn, Eskridge, Anderson, Reddish, and George should be able to do the job. And with all of our scholarship openings left, I say go grab a corner from a JUCO that can provide depth, while keeping Whigham (and perhaps Morgan) from losing a year.

I hope he doesn't get the red shirt because that means he as good as I think he is going to be from the minute he gets here :)

If that happens, great... I just don't want to see it come to that unless (knock on wood) there is an injury or defection, as I think he will be really good too. But we also have some other talented guys and I just don't want to see him used up as a 3rd or 4th option when he can save it.

Miami signed Bush so they should be set at DB. They were the only team that really scared me. An offer from a big school is nice but Syracuse has been developing a relationship over the course of a few months we should be good. Also wasn't this the kid who was sick and Syracuse offered before he had regained his strength and size.
