To me this entire past week had a feel reminiscent of about 10+ years ago. Alot of buzz in the air, talk of a sellout, SU facing a giant of epic proportions. What am I talking about? The Miami Hurricanes. We had a 9-2 team facing them in 2001 and got beat just as badly as we did Sat. We couldn't stop them all day and they killed our offense. We still finished 10-3 and was one of our last good seasons. BTW, we lost to TN and GT too that year I believe. I'm not ready to quit on these guys yet and neither should any of you, at least not yet. I'd rather face a Miami or two every year than sit in the dying AAC. Used to be Miami and VT, now we get Clemson and FSU. I'm not complaining.

I've been towing the "faith" line for far too long.

Coach P got blown out of his last bowlgame...
...Well, keep the faith. They just brought in a new head coach. Goes by the name of Greg Robinson. I hear he coached in a superbowl and was at Texas.

Coach Robinson looks somewhat clueless...
...Well, keep the faith. The cupboards were bare. It'll take a few years for him to get "his" players in here.

The GERG experiment was a disaster...
...Well, keep the faith. They brought in one of our own. Doug Marrone was the O-Coordinator for the Saints. He'll return us to the promised land.

*CKING HCDM! He left for Buffalo with the entire coaching staff, decimated the recruiting class and took everything that wasn't bolted down...
...Well, keep the faith. He left Scott Shafer behind and he's one "HARDNOSED MOTHER *CKER". He's going to lock Clemson in the dome and smack them around a bit. This team will surprise some people this year.

Smart move on that "locking Clemson in the dome" thing Scott. That didn't piss them off at all....
...Well, keep the faith. The dome was sold out and the beer was cold. Hell, we could be UConn, right?

Our goal with a staff in transition and a 1st year QB should be a bowl game. I don't care if it's the Jello Bowl. Get the extra practice and have back to back season over .500. Expecting anything more this season means you should follow SEC teams that don't rebuild but reload. That's not us, not yet. Yeah we got our door blown off by Clemson. Yeah it sucked. Doesn't mean the season is over. If we get housed by NCST this weekend then maybe you can blow you lid off. So far Terrell and Co have faced 2 horrible teams and 1 amazing team. Let's see how we do against middle of the road competition before you 'lose faith'

You are free to move on if you've lost faith.

You just described being a fan.

I liked 44PRIDE's post because what he said is true. It all happened.

Kinda. Not 10 years ago, but, say, 12 years ago and prior we actually had a puncher's chance of beating the "giants". We really don't these days.

Maybe someday.

Like Louisville last year? There's always a chance. Clemson matched up perfectly with our weaknesses.

You really are one miserable SOB. A panicked move and bad hire cratered the program. It's taken four years of building out but the internal fundamentals are so much better and improving. The roster is better, the recruiting is better, the resources available are increasing and there is finally a real commitment by the school to improve the facilities that the program is using. Those are facts, not faith.

This program is a hell of alot closer to top 25 than bottom 100, and that couldn't have been said 5 years ago. There is still a lot of work left to do, but it's far from a disaster.

By the end of the year this was one of the twenty best teams in the country. This is a transition year and a step back was to be expected but why don't you wait and see what happens before doubling down on doom and gloom.

Keep the faith, my friend....

All true. I bleed Orange, and Purple I've also been a Minnesota Vikings fan for the last 43 years, and I'll never be anything else. All you have is loyalty, hope and ... faith. When you start losing faith, hold on to the others.

Marrone's 1st year 5 of first 6 games were in the Dome , and we were 2-4, 2-3 in the Dome, best team we played was Cincinnati at home lost 28-7, they lost bowl game 51-24, Tebow passed for 480+ yards. The bowl game for Cincinnati wasn't even that close, Florida finished 5th in the nation. We need better players with more depth, and that takes time, you can't continually recruit in the high 50's, and low 60's and win in the good leagues. The players we are getting this year are better then anything we got during Doug's time here, but they need a chance to get here ,and grow.

Whether we like how he left or no, Doug Marrone succeeded. We "kept the faith" and he did his job.

If we can't consistently get to bowl games and finish middle of the pack + in ACC, then the improvement in recruiting won't last. I am encouraged by the uptick, but discouraged by the ugly way in which we have lost games this year - the Tulane game inspired a bit of confidence - but we really have no idea what we have on our hands here and won't for a couple more weeks.

No sense losing our heads until we've played a full season and a wider range of teams. But this is a different team than our top-twenty bunch from late last fall. Marrone assembled a pretty darn good staff; they're long gone.

Through 5, Fred Reed seems to have taken a nearly intact secondary and turned it into an inept group. They're the same players (minus Thomas, who was a hard hitter and solid player if an average guy in pass coverage), plus Kelly and a year of experience. Coaching looks to be a problem right now.

Same trouble on offense, as far as I'm concerned. No reason to think he won't learn and improve, but McDonald's insistence on relying on our fourth-best tailback for the bulk of our first-down plays has been disappointing. Through five, I don't think we're maximizing our talent on this end.

Very different program right now than it was ten months ago. We'll see where it goes.

UL had a nice ranking, they're not a giant.

I guess we need to define giant? Top 5? But not top 10? Clearly Clemson is a step up from Louisville - but by how much?

Like Louisville last year? There's always a chance. Clemson matched up perfectly with our weaknesses.

UL wasn't competing for a national title.

Clemson is.

Back in the day Miami was.

Adjust expectations. SU should be consistent 7-5 type team with a mix of 8-4 and the occasional 9-3 or 10-2. That's the truth. SU will always be fighting an uphill battle.

I don't believe in absolutes.

another common factor is the wrong QB was playing in the opening 2 games. Win one of those and the Gator Bowl is forced to take SU that year.

Louisville could be this season. Not doubting that Clemson this year is better than Louisville last year - but the gap isn't as wide as we saw on Saturday. Last years team would have been closer (not win).
