Has anyone figured out why Lydon looked right at G...who was wide open...and then decided to heave the worst pass in SU history into a swarm of flyers?

Yeah,that was bad but.... really?

I just was completely befuddled . I keep thinking I must have missed something. The dude looked right at him..and then threw it the opposite direction. Either he or I was stoned. captain J will be able to figure this out

Lydon also passed up 2 WIDE OPEN looks again. He leads the country in not taking great shots.

But it somehow works out for him so w/e.

My recollection could be wrong, but wasn't there a defender standing right behind/next to G. I mean, he still could have got him the ball, but I think he looked away for the open player. Except by the time the ball traveled 800 feet up court, he wasn't open any more. :(

I agree but definitely just a poor decision since Lydon himself could have dribbled up court. Sometimes thinking can get you into trouble rather than just playing. Lydon has to start trusting his instincts more and just play - he has pretty good instincts but when he hesitates , it appears he gets in more trouble.

Agree with this, but mentioned it in the game thread: I think this is an instance in which Boeheim's recent "only guards bring the ball up" edict causes kids to over-think and play tight.

I long for the day when we're firing outlets to the best option and allowing the open rebounder to take four dribbles into open space again.

Well to be fair Mike G didn't "come to the ball" either but I doubt JB told Tyler to throw an outlet to a covered guard rather than even taking a dribble - remember there were 5 covering our 4 players down court. When did JB say what you said, I sorry, seriously I just don't recall it. I can't recall but had Tyler already dribbled, stopped and feared being called for a double dribble?

1st time I've heard of Boeheims rule. Funny because we don't win Natl Champ without our 1 man press break - Carmelo Anthony. He brought the ball up everytime anyone even thought of pressing us.

Actually 5 covering 3 players since Tyler and G were standing 6 feet apart alone in the backcourt. I think it was a brain fart. I was flipping out at the time but thank goodness it didn't hurt us.

I don't think he saw the defender based on the pace of the pass. That was a floater.

That pass killed our momentum. We were on a run, had a 5 point lead and that pass is the reason we were only up 2 at halftime.

I think tyler just got a little too excited, he knew we were on a run and wanted to be aggressive and push the pace but he should have the opposite thought. We're in control no need to rush anything.

He hasn't said anything, but it's looked to be a point of emphasis since 2012; I don't think he believes we can afford any more mistakes than the ones the guards are bound to make, so they're solely responsible for advancing the ball.

Could be that Tyler wasted a dribble after the rebound and felt rushed into making the pass; I deleted the DVR already and don't recall. He wrong pass, without a doubt; if he's able, it'd be better to see him dribble his way to safety.

I could see Malachi moving further into this role if we play a few more games. He helped us more than ever before with his ballhandling yesterday.

I like this simplest explanation the best. I believe if we asked him, that's the reply we'd get.

In football, it often happens when the QB doesn't see a linebacker leaving his expected man or coverage area and streaking over the middle.

And I give props to SteveHolt for his faith in me. I haven't watched a replay since the live play, so it was hard for me to say until I saw this post. The pass looked way too lazy for him to have noticed that defender.
