Just re-watched the SU-Clemson Game..

After my re-watch, I need to see a lot from the WR's tomorrow to feel comfortable. It really makes you appreciate how great Erv and Steve Ish were for us. Both incredibly athletic, both incredibly fast. I have not seen anything like that from our current WR's (with the exception of Custis - which I'm still not sold on. Feel he was bigger than any CB that WMU had, which won't be the case in most games).

We won that game in the third quarter when Clemson was driving and we stopped them. Clemson never recovered from it.

The first drive those 3 big chunk runs by the backs is what we need this season.

Custis is 6-5, he’ll certainly be bigger than his competition all season, the vast majority anyway. I’d like to see him high point the ball better, that’s my only concern.

I think he’ll struggle on 50/50 balls with better athletes. Time will tell. Very encouraging week 1, he played extremely well.

I watched a video of every throw/run by Dungey in that game and I swear there was only one play the entire game where he wasn't pressured. Amazing we were able to win that game.

picking the high point game of last season, where the team played its absolute best, and comparing it to the week 1 game the following season to draw comparisons is a pretty dubious way to go about analysis.

Why not pull up video of the Middle Tennessee game and use that as a comparison point? Pretty sure Phillips' 7 catches for 51 yards and multiple drops isn't going seem like incredible shoes to fill.

To be clear, my point is NOT that the wide receivers don't have something to prove, or that Ish and Erv weren't very good last year. My point is that Ish and Erv played an entire season last year - with ups and downs - and cherry picking performances and pretending that is the standard the WR's need to hit every single game is an unrealistic and inappropriate standard.
