Tennessee is averaging 47.3 ppg. We gave up 38 offensive points to them. They put up 41 against Georgia. We also started two true freshman in their first game against this offense.
UConn is averaging 30.7 ppg. We held them to 20 points and basically shut them down in the second half and OT.
Colgate is averaging 31 ppg. We held them to 24 points, with the starting D being accountable for 3 points in the first and 7 points in the fourth. The backup units were embarrassing in the third giving up 14 points. This may have been a blessing.
Clemson is averaging 19.8 ppg. We held them to 21 points. Yes we gave up 500 yards of offense but those 500 yards yielded 21 points. Nothing crazy.
The point of the game is to score more than the other team. Duke has shown to have a pretty good offense - they can score on quick, explosive plays.
Our offense is going to take a step back with Collins. It just is. I think the D is actually better than the metrics showed the first few weeks.
Can Coach and ERob squeeze enough out of the D to see continued improvements? Because they are going to have to lead the team the rest of the way of we are to have a successful season.
We have given up just under 26 offensive ppg to date against teams averaging just over 32 ppg. Against D1 we average 29.7 ppg. That's going to fall back a bit. Can we get that 26 ppg allowed down to under 24 ppg the last eight games?
