I don't consider it a big deal and reasonable minds can certainly differ - your take is could very well be spot on. I would just expect more polish and leadership from a senior who has been a four year starter. He's usually very good at that kind of thing. "I'm really excited about the future of the QB position at Syracuse. I'm looking forward to an outstanding season and I know that whoever I pass the baton to will keep this program on an upward trajectory. I get to be with these guys every day in the weight room, the QB room, and there is an incredible hunger to compete and improve each and every day. I have every confidence the guys will bring their best in the offseason and I know that whoever the coaches choose to take snaps next year will be well prepared and ready to lead the team to victory. The future is bright, and I will be cheering them on." Can you imagine if DeVito was asked about Dungey and he said something like, "Eric is a great QB, but he has to realize that he is not a linebacker back there. It's one thing to throw a quick out, but this isn't Madden and sometimes you have to actually go through your progressions. It's a different world." Dungey needs to not be discussing the weaknesses of his teammates in the media. By all means do it behind closed doors. But let the coaches publicly comment on what individual players need to improve in, should they feel the need to say so. It is especially bad because the Madden comparison is a mind blowingly stupid comparison to make. It is one thing to say something like "all he needs is a little seasoning and he'll do great". It is quite another to compare it to playing a video game vs. playing actual football. Lets not forget who rescued Alabama and won a national championship last year. I guess fellow Elite 11 finalist Tua Tagovailoa is just a really really really good Madden player. I don't know. Like I said, I don't take it as a big deal. It is a snippet relayed by a reporter on what, honestly, feels like a forced 4th installment of a series. It might be lacking context, or might have come out wrong and sounds worse than what he intended. It is a single data point. It doesn't change my opinion of Dungey or anything. But - as written - I stand by what I said - it comes off as petty and insecure.
