As if the sudden end to their sports seasons wasn't enough of a shock, the measures universities started to implement to try to keep students safe delivered a far different set of challenges for international student-athletes.
Justyn Knight became the new world leader in the men's two-mile, posting the fastest time of the season to date at the New Balance Grand Prix in Staten Islan...
Justyn is one of my alltime favorite SU athletes in any sport. I had the pleasure of chatting with he and a couple of other Orange runners at the NCAA Championships in Eugene a couple of years ago. Just a super, super guy. At the time he had the fastest 5K in the world that year and yet he was as humble and friendly as could be. In an age when the basketball team can play a road game in an arena more than half filled with SU fans, Justyn and the guys seemed delighted that an old SU alum wandered over in the small breakfast place just to chat with them.
I spend a lot of time in Eugene these days and the new Oregon track and field stadium is unreal. Hoping that maybe an SU athlete or two can make the Olympic Trials there in a few weeks.
