Keita & Southerland Have Career Days - Albany Recap

If Southerland keeps playing like this, he has to get 20 minutes a game. If that happens, who's minutes suffer? Christmas? Fair? Joseph? My guess is Christmas. He'll get a few more minutes in the middle most likely.

I can't wait to see how Southerland does against major competition.

I'm not getting carried away on JS yet. Consider the competition level here. Let's see if he can pull down any rebs against BE teams cause he sure couldn't last year. If JB plays KJ and JS together against BE teams we'll get killed on the boards... unless JS has totally changed his finesse game.

Right -- you have to consider the competition level, and how our guys are getting their points. But a 6ft 7 in forward like Southerland, elevating and shooting with confidence, is going to be able to get those shots against a lot of teams. His stroke is definitely improved, and he is better at getting to positions on the court where a forward should be taking shots. In the past, he would be launching from a few feet farther out, where guards but not forwards usually should be roaming. Now, he is on the baseline, or mid-range. Next step for him is to show he can get and make a shot off a dribble move.

You always know that Boeheim will pitch a fit (and use a quick hook) when his guards don't close out on the other team's best shooters. Fans note the points that our guards make; JB is annoyed by those they give up. Same for James and the other forwards -- closing out on shooters, but also guarding the baseline and not letting opposing forwards breeze inside for lay-ups. You can see James is trying on the defensive end --
