Cali, have you ever considered getting some type of voice recognition software where you can just say into a headset what you want typed? Might be much less strenuous for you than having to type with one hand.

In concur, open tibia frx is often a major issue. Poor blood flow, the possibility that it's the tibial plateau (which carries a slew of potential complications with it), and of course the fact that it's the key weight bearing bone down there (the fibula doesn't do much) make it critical to reduce and repair properly. I'm sure he still has a titanium rod in the tibia and locking screws near the knee and ankle - these can be irritating and painful, and folks often elect to have the rod out in a years' time once the frx has fully healed. Nonunion and infection are the greatest concerns. In some cases, we now use recombinant human bone morphogenic protein and a slice of the patient's own hip bone (top part, the iliac crest) to encourage union - neat stuff, and it works.

All this said, we're able to handle open tibial frx fairly well now (assuming there isn't some huge segmental loss of bone) and his injury pales in comparison to what happened to Jay Williams and Shawn Livingston - both tore multiple knee ligaments, displaced the knee, and in Williams' case had to wait for a nerve to regrow / re-ennervate so he could lift his foot. IMO the next great advancements should be made in soft tissue (ligaments, tendons) and nerve repair.

I love reading posts like this. Thanks for the details.

I live in Louisville and my post wasn't groundless. The term is dissed not dished, and I wasn't disrespecting Kevin Ware. I blamed the media for their over the top coverage. It wasn't one of the worst live injuries, not even close. People have died, been paralyzed, and a bunch of other life altering injuries. He broke his leg, he has been pain free and off crutches for 2 months now, tearing an ACL is worse than a broken leg.

I was just saying he was a guy who played 10-15 minutes a game and averaged 4 points with little fanfare. He was then instantly given attention that superstar athletes get. Not a lot of people can handle that.

Not to belabor the point, but the Joe Theisman v LT leg injury wasn't life threatening either. But, to witness it live and in living color is where the shock comes in. Sad to say but someone getting paralyzed is an injury that tends to slowly "sink in" as minutes go by and the injured player doesn't move or get up. Its not "instantaneous" and you don't typically watch a sport like CBB expecting to see a leg snap in two. So, IMHO, the Ware injury definitely ranks as one of the worst.

I live in Louisville too. I have heard nothing about this on local TV or the newspaper. My son said he thinks this may have been originated by some UK fans. If Ware was booted, we'd definitely know it here, and there's nothing to know at this time. Assuming his leg is good, Ware will see plenty of PT this coming season.

In case any of you were wondering, this is the 545th time MCC has proven he's 10x smarter than I am. I'm no dummy, but his posts sure make me think I am... :)

Yeah I would agree with this for sure. I think all you need to do is think of the reaction of the people who were there live. A lot of people were totally shaken up, more than you'd be for a torn ACL or something.

I remember watching the game, one of the Duke guys made a shot and they showed him running back down the court, then he looked over to the Lville side, and I could tellb y the look on his face something really bad had happened.

Ha! Seriously, I suspect you're sufficiently expert in several fields that I'd look the fool if we ever tabled them. I'm sure you're no slouch - don't sell yourself short.

For levity, I'll call on the inimitable Ty Webb

Are you a doctor?

Common sense? Guy gets a compound fracture in front of the whole Nation and coach yanks schollie to free up space for a possible recruit. Not even Calhoun would go that far.[/quotell
He duped Roderick Road to the draft so he could land Ron Mercer at Kentucky

I appreciate the suggestion and maybe they have progressed since I las tried it and found that more frustrating than what typing was doing to me and those who attempt a read. I'll look into it and the cost factor which s important. to me. I can't tap into my son's wealth nor do I want to in any way. He has a young baby to start preparing for college. I can only hope its Syracuse University. Its way too soon to begin the brain washing although I have given the kid a lot of Orangemen themed baby clothes and stuff. This Christmas he will get a bob fluffy Otto.
