At the holiday festival at MSG and a few thoughts:
St. John's has a few interesting quirks to their team. They're long and athletic, but their shooting is dreadful. Fordham played a zone during the first half and let St. John's take mid range jumpers and they bricked nearly every single one. That being said, when their shooters get moving towards the basket, their touch shots fall pretty well. Also, they get up to block well. Basically their help side defense creates a lot of block opportunities.
Rutgers is quick and smart. They're not going to run up and down the court, but they're going to make the top of the defense work. I'm not a big fan of the Rutgers coach but his assistants really tutor the players on the sideline and the impact is evident immediately. I think they'll be tough for non-zone teams.
All in all, not a lot to see, but still they will provide interesting games in the future.
