additions to the pitching staff Now of course NOT trading the farm system away might in fact be that action giving some kids to be factors this coming season. Phelps or Banuelos and or Betances getting the chanve to be another Nova.

Yankees have a lot of talent on the cusp of being in the Big Leagues. I don't think they'll need to add players as much as it is developing these guys into roles in which they can contribute. I think Montero goes .310/30/100 if he gets a full year

Next year?

I'm not a Yankee fan, but I think the one that really surprised me was not going after Darvish. He was perfect in the sense that he would not have cost any prospects, wouldn't have cost any draft picks, and has the type of ceiling that could eventually pushed CC to the number-2 spot in the rotation. The Yankees can afford a 100 million dollar mistake, so I think this was an error.

Other than that, I respect the re-commitment to the farm, but I think they overvalue their prospects in the upper-minors. This may hurt them in the long run.

They will make some moves, but in the end, I think they are going to try milk the current roster for all it's worth and see how things shake out until the All-Star break.

I understand what you are saying about prospects and draft picks but I'm not so sure about not being able to afford mistakes like this. They are already saddled with declining ARod and Jeter and an underperforming Burnett and to some extent Texeira. The Luxury Tax rules are changing too and they have to consider the impact that will have on their budget. I think CC, Nova, Hughes will all be big contributors and the combination of Burnett, Garcia, whoever steps in from the scrap heap (I hear they might be inviting Colon back for a tryout) and the pitching prospects they have coming up will suffice. And they still have a very strong bull-pen, especially with Joba coming back.

Yanks re-sign Andruw Jones for a one-year, $2 million deal.

If George was alive Darvish wears pinstripes but Ha isn't George and never will be. He is putting the squeeze on Cashman's spending. Hal is also an effn idiot for not immediately returning an IRS overpayment. Never give the bastards a reason to look at you closer. You gotta be dumber than dirt to try to pull that off

Nova and Hughes are question marks that are very likable, but a lot of "new" Yankee fans from the last decade aren't used to being forced to watch young pitchers develop and fight through their struggles while doing so. Personally, I think relying on Betances and Banuelos is a mistake. I like them both individually, but I would not be betting the house on them. Both are walking guys at an eye-popping clip. To add to that, Betances isn't really all that young (in comparison to how much polish he needs before becoming effective), and Banuelos is 5'10".

Hughes came in unprepared last year. Supposedly he is on a more rigorous offseason workout schedule and should be ready to go from opening day this year. Nova's progression has been trending upward and there is no reason to expect he won't show continued development this coming season. Agree on Betances, and I'm not sure another season in AAA will make that much of a difference for him with respect to his control issues. Banuelos was coming off surgery in 2010 and seems to have lost a little of his control after not pitching for a period of time. I don't think being 5'10 is necessarily a drawback per se. Guidry was only 5'11. And looking at Banuelos, he just seems bigger than that. The Yankees aren't really noted for developing their young pitching talent in the minors though and that may end up being the biggest drawback to either of those guys. They already gave up on the third "B" who ended up signing with the Reds this offseason.

...good facts...ESPN Insider rank the Yankees outfiled as 2nd best in majors and infield 3rd best--with Jeter and A-rod declining a bit you got MT at first and RC at second...pitching may be a concern...but with the young guns as pitchers it is going to be interesting if not up and down...the one thing that appears to be taking place in Yankee baseball is not trade young guys for established stars...i question however why with two-three major up and coming catchers plus three top prospects in pitching we didnt land a very good pitcher like Gio from As in a trade...

I can't remember where I read that the Yankees have a goal of not paying any luxury tax in 2015.
