Kinda OT: ESPN pulls Vitale from UNC-Duke game

I've never met the guy and I'm sure he is a first class person, but, professionally, he has turned himself into a cartoon character. I have to turn the TV sound way down to watch any game that he broadcasts. My wife will leave the room.

I have the same reaction with Sterling and Waldman when I have to listen to Yankees games on the radio. I have no idea how the wealthiest team in the largest media market has such terrible announcers when baseball is chock full of fantastic radio voices that make some people turn off the TV just to listen to the radio.

I'd be willing to bet that it's a much younger generation that pulled the plug on Dickie V. They would have little to no feeling for the history involved.

I've said it many times and I'll say it again - Vitale is the most important person in the history of college basketball.

But at the end of the day ESPN is a business, and they'll decide what's best for themselves, and the world will keep spinning.
