As for the Sabres, that is exactly what I was referring to.  He was VERY patient with the inherited regime.  In addition to Pegula's patience, he also upgraded facilities, doubled the scouting organization, and provided everything he could to help build a winning culture.  The only knock on Pegula was that he did not act fast enough on changing GMs.  I also know people who work for the Pegula's, and they are known to be great people to work for.
I can promise you it does not make me "feel better" to call Marrone a villain.  I am a diehard Bils fan, and 'Cuse fan.  He took a bunch of  'Cuse assistants right in the recruiting cycle (if he needed those guys, they would have been available in Feb), and then left his job (that I say again the Bills brass stuck out their necks for him to get). I wish he did neither of those things, he did both.  
I think Marrone is tarnished right now, and will not get either of those remaining head coach roles.  If Marrone goes zero  for 6 on head coach roles, you can't argue it any other way.  I think he had a back door deal for the Jets role when he took advantage of the clause, and he got toxic and the jets bailed (that is my opinion based on timing of the leaks, the jets interview, and the stories that were breaking at the time).  If you think his "choice" was to leave an nfl head coach role to be an OC or "consultant" you are delusional.
