Actually, he has not really proven he can build a sustained winner yet. Of course, he needs to stay someplace top prove that. He was .500 at SU (under .400 in conference play) and .469 in two seasons at Buffalo. A coach with that record, especially when it is widely believed that his defenses were usually better than his offenses, would have to have a huge ego to think that record was something that would stand above the achievements of all the other coaches vying for NFL HC jobs.

Cuse, you may think DM is a great coach, and someday he might prove you correct, but it is just not credible to think he exercised the change of control option (which is not uncommon in many other industries) without thinking he would land another NFL job. (Personally, I think he thought he was a lock for the Jets job.) With all his references from great NFL names, he failed to land one of 6 NFL jobs. It really appears that NFL owners have ignored all of his boosters and placed more weight on his negatives.
