Nate Mink has written two, over-the-top empathetic stories about how the football program was <this> close to not being able to field a team this year.

There is a valid point because of the injuries, but I don't believe any other team came close to not being able to field a team for non-COVID reasons (no OL sat out due to it.)

Well done, Team Edson.

Most games have been competitive despite the worst skill position guys imaginable. D keeps plying hard.

It sucks but I can give the staff a pass.

But crap like Sommers and all the WRs need to be forced out I’ll give anyone their scholarships and get better returns. The wide receivers areawful.

This is the beginning of a very coordinated attempt to cool the jets of fans that would like a chance at a successful team next year, and who will be disappointed by Babers returning (thus making that more unlikely)

good lord
Look I completely understand why they are going to stay with him for another year because of the buyout. I am just saying that I believe it makes PR sense to make sure that the story of the season is told en masse to try to lower the temperature among some fans. For Pete's sake the OP said similar.

Think the quote below from the article is a bit dramatic. Despite numerous opportunities to do so, he refused to come anywhere close to stating strongly that he planned to stay on during the one good season we've had under him. After the season, he stayed on after receiving a very generous extension and not much out there to pursue once USC kept their coach. I don't blame him for that, but the school doesn't owe him any more loyalty than that. I like Dino, but our local media are a bit much.
"And Babers might be left wondering: Will the commitment he made to SU in its most distressed state be reciprocated back?"

Propaganda at it's finest.

Listen, it's a tough year. All results should be taken with a large grain of salt.

However, if there are games, they count. If there is practice, it should mean something.

The fact that we have seen so much regression is very worrisome. I believe/hope things will go back to semi-normal by the summer, which would mean we should have a normal training camp.
Probably won't have spring ball to the extent that he'd want, but there might be some of that also. At the very least, better than absolutely nothing which is what happened after March 11 last year.

All of this to say that next year is very much a big year for him.
A lot of question marks at the QB position, and rightfully so. Does he bring a big-name transfer in? Does he roll the dice with Lamson? Not sure that's a great idea. Or does he beg DeVito to come back and hope he gains pocket awareness and unlocks his eyesight off his first read?

Questions at OL, DL & WR. Other questions about the safety position without Cisco. Is Hanna the long-term answer? He's been OK, not great. Greenwood has been beaten like a drum. Is it fair to judge them as freshmen playing extended minutes? I think it is. Garrett Williams has shown a lot, as have S. Thompson and J. Carter.

Tough calls but ultimately we need to get the offense back on track in some way next year. This current semblance of a unit is really, really bad. And without QB clarity, it's going to be really tough to win 6 games next year.

Judging freshman based on extensive playing time is fine but I think it’s a mistake to do so without context.

Why wouldn’t we have “QB clarity” by next year?

I think you can see talent when you play. I don't think Greenwood is ever going to be an ACC-caliber safety. Too small and not fast enough. Could he get better? Sure. And Hanna is so small, I'm not sure he will ever get to the strength level to be starting caliber, but he could.

As to why we don't have QB clarity -- we have DeVito, who has proven exactly nothing in two-plus years of playing. We have a freshman who has been OK, but not great by any stretch and is a freshman. And then we have a whole lot of unknown. How is that clear to you or to anyone?

On Hanna and Greenwood: I agree. Jury is out. Ideally they become ACC caliber. I think Hanna could in 2 more seasons. Greenwood is ??

My best guess is they become quality depth players for Cuse.

I wonder where Duce fits in the picture next year. He'll be enrolling early and hopefully can make a decent contribution next year. I agree that Hanna has the more upside and could be a solid ACC safety in a year or two

Duce will start.

Yup. I'll take 1-10 over 0-0 all day long...

One of my issues is the amount of small players. Find some height somewhere.

Dino has said he prefers smaller but faster DB’s iirc

We had plenty of height - Tril & Cisco are 6'2" and 6', Iffy is 6'3", Coley 6'2"
Newer kids like Ja'Had Carter and RGLBL are both 6'2"
Hanna & Nunn both 6'.
Garrett Williams is 5'11".

Cole & Greenwood are the 'short' guys, at 5'10"

interesting to note that the two going to the NFL draft are above 6’2. I like Williams though but the others not a fan so far.
