Lane Kiffin Has His Offensive Game Plan for SU Done.

Being as ass does not mean one has a "big personality."

Wonder if he'll adjust after he sees our new offense against Minny...

its probably...throw a dart at the play book, call the play, snap the ball, celebrate in the endzone.

wash, rinse, repeat.

With Barkley and those WR and TE's I dont think you are far off.

I think our defense is getting bigger, more athletic, and with the new coaching moves, is really continuing to move in a good direction.

But I just don't see how any of that will be noticed on this particular day. We're going against multiple first round draft picks. When healthy, they are going to make every defense they play look bad.

Wish Barkley left after his junior year. Sigh.

No doubt Chip, I view the USC as a throw away game as you cant expect a still rebuilding Cuse team especially on D to be able to stop a Senior all american QB with 5 and 4 star weapons all over the field. Even if Barkley had left I still dont think that would have made a huge difference, we are way to young in the secondary and our LB's while athletic and hard hitting are no where near the strength and size to compete with top end D1 talent like USC has.

The more important games are 1 and 3. Can Syracuse beat a team of similar talent and caliber like Northwestern? And can Syracuse finally lay the wood to a 1AA opponent and flex its muscles or will we be in a dogfight again deep into the second half.

I know we say this a lot of years, but that NW game really is crucial. They lose a ton on offense, we have them at home, need to take that game. Minny is another key. But even though they may not have been good last year, anytime you go on the road at night to a BCS level conference venue, the odds are not in your favor. USC and Mizzou, hard to pencil in anything but L.

That leaves the Big East. Marrone hasn't defeated Louisville yet, hard to predict that this would be the year. Marrone hasn't defeated Pitt yet, feel slightly better that this could be the year. Marrone hasn't defeated UConn yet, feel even better that this could be the year. Feel good about the Rutgers game. Don't feel so good about the USF or Cincy games. Don't know what to think about Temple. Hard to see 4 conference wins, but it was hard to see them in 2010 too so I know I can, and will, be surprised by something this year.

Hopefully they aren't bringing the same refs that called the game there...not that they really needed them but a little added help is always a plus. They are going to be big east refs this time, correct? And yes, I know SU has more to worry about other than the refs.

So long as the game plan for the offense is NOT to keep it close and hope to work a miracle in the 4th, I can't say that I care when the plan is ready.

Your not off base about NW, I posted in another thread yesterday that I think NW could be the make or break game of the whole season. The last thing this team or program needs is a beat up and downtrodden 0-2 SU team playing in front of 25,000 fans versus a Stony Brook team who thinks its the super bowl. That game has epic disaster written all over it.

As for the BE game I echo most of your thoughts I dont see us beating Louisville for whatever reason they own us since Marrone got year. I am more confident in Rutgers, Cincy, South Florida, Temple, Marrone has a good track record against Rutgers and if our defense could have stopped a QB draw we shoudl have beaten Cincy and South Florida last year.

I cant figure Pitt out, every year I think this must be the season and then boom we usually get blown out. Uconn is a must win, the most dissapointing loss of the Marrone era was that game last year at Renstchler field or whatever the hell they call it. No way we should lose to them again.
Mizzou is definitely a loss, whoever scheduled that game should be fired. I mean what person thinks Gee were coming off a 5-7 horrendous collapse with a rebuilding young team with only moderate depth, we have a history under Marrone of struggling down the stretch to win games, will likely have numerous injuries and will probably desperately need a W to be bowl eligible, Hey I know lets schedule Mizzouri on the road in the second to last game of the year. :bang:

I have faith in Kiffin. He can mess up anything. I think he will look good because he is at USC and will draw the players. I'm highly skeptical of his coaching ability.

Like VATech's HC, Frank Beamer, can he win the big games/championship?

I can't believe everyone is penciling Mizzou as a loss... It's their first season in the SEC, it's late in the season so they will be worn down. We will have a battle tested senior QB. It's an unlikely win but it's not penciled in as a loss, and whoever scheduled it should not be fired. Would you rather we played another D1-AA at home? So much negativity on this board.

If the program had been proactive we could have had Mid Tenn, North Texas, Hawaii, etc etc. There was never a need for a second D1AA but Frazier and company sat on the schedule until it was to late and it was either Missouri or FLorida State. Sorry if this is negative but what exactly have you seen the past three years that says SU can win on the road late in the season against an SEC team?? Marrone's teams have struggled down the stretch every year and Missouri has much more depth to deal with injuries, if any team will be worn down its us.

Also as much as it pains me to say it your statement about a senior battle tested QB is pretty irrelevant when that QB while I think a good player has never won a game on his own or willed us to a victory. Nassib is a good QB who limits his mistakes but hes no Mcnabb.

How do you know that they sat on the schedule until it was too late? Maybe Mid Tenn, North Texas, Hawaii, etc etc wanted far too much money for a guarantee game, or maybe we didn't have an open date that fit them. It isn't as easy as you are making it out to be. Their QB was roughly the same as Nassib last year passing wise. Obviously he's a good runner but we've handled dual threat QBs decently. I'm not writing this off.

He hasn't lost us any games either. You need to limit mistakes in a tough game on the road, and Nassib can do that. Without seeing our revamped offense, as well as many offensive/defensive wildcards, how can you write it off? What if we are 9-1 at that point in the season? There are a lot of wild cards and we will see what happens. I am very optimistic for this team. I expect our defense to play at a 2010 level rather than 2011. Offense is still in the air but I think they will be better.

Without getting into specifics I got it from what I would consider the horses mouth that there was no real urgency to fill that game until the WVU issue was finalized when it was clear to I think everyone on this board and who follows college football that they were leaving the BE this year no matter what it took. SU has in the past handed dual threat QB's but UCon's Div 2 QB, Daniels from USF, and even Munchie pretty much torched us running draws and reads all day late last year. Unless we can keep the injuries to a minimum on D ( whens the last time that happened? P era?) I just dont see an SU team who by that point in the season will have been without a second bye and likely worn down going into Mizzou and getting a W. To me its absolutely assinine to schedule an SEC team on the road at the end of a year for a rebuilding team who desperately needs to get to a bowl game. Any non BCS Div 1 team would have been perferable to an SEC team even if it is a lower level team. I still think SU can have a good season and get to a bowl game but at this point I dont see how you cant pencil in Missouri as a loss. Doesnt mean I wont watch every second and cheer like hell for SU but I think were asking to much from a still rebuilding team.

As for Nassib I like the kid and I agree he is the type of QBwho usually limits his mistakes and keeps turnovers to a minimum. But your also making a lot of assumptions on what he has around him. The D and O should both be improved and god help us special teams cant go anywhere but up, but how much improvement can we realistically expect? Marrone has talked about revamping the offense and while I am glad to hear it we also need to be realistic about the pieces we have. Nassib has shown zero ability to hit the deep ball, we have no homerun threat at the RB position and much of the depth has had injury problems, people are expecting the world out of a WR who hasnt played in nearly two years and who besides one bowl game was pretty much invisible, our best WR is recovering from major surgery and his health is not guaranteed, and the loss of Provo who would have made an enormous impact this year.

I do agree about the D, if the Linebackers hold up and make the improvements you would expect we could have a great D reminiscient of 2o1o as you mentioned. I am excited about the secondary and the Juco's, and have my fingers crossed on the LB's.

Fixed.

I am always more worried about Monty's play calling the man is a freaking mastermind
