Without getting into specifics I got it from what I would consider the horses mouth that there was no real urgency to fill that game until the WVU issue was finalized when it was clear to I think everyone on this board and who follows college football that they were leaving the BE this year no matter what it took. SU has in the past handed dual threat QB's but UCon's Div 2 QB, Daniels from USF, and even Munchie pretty much torched us running draws and reads all day late last year. Unless we can keep the injuries to a minimum on D ( whens the last time that happened? P era?) I just dont see an SU team who by that point in the season will have been without a second bye and likely worn down going into Mizzou and getting a W. To me its absolutely assinine to schedule an SEC team on the road at the end of a year for a rebuilding team who desperately needs to get to a bowl game. Any non BCS Div 1 team would have been perferable to an SEC team even if it is a lower level team. I still think SU can have a good season and get to a bowl game but at this point I dont see how you cant pencil in Missouri as a loss. Doesnt mean I wont watch every second and cheer like hell for SU but I think were asking to much from a still rebuilding team. As for Nassib I like the kid and I agree he is the type of QBwho usually limits his mistakes and keeps turnovers to a minimum. But your also making a lot of assumptions on what he has around him. The D and O should both be improved and god help us special teams cant go anywhere but up, but how much improvement can we realistically expect? Marrone has talked about revamping the offense and while I am glad to hear it we also need to be realistic about the pieces we have. Nassib has shown zero ability to hit the deep ball, we have no homerun threat at the RB position and much of the depth has had injury problems, people are expecting the world out of a WR who hasnt played in nearly two years and who besides one bowl game was pretty much invisible, our best WR is recovering from major surgery and his health is not guaranteed, and the loss of Provo who would have made an enormous impact this year. I do agree about the D, if the Linebackers hold up and make the improvements you would expect we could have a great D reminiscient of 2o1o as you mentioned. I am excited about the secondary and the Juco's, and have my fingers crossed on the LB's.
