The past ten men's basketball national champions have been in the top 20 of Ken Pomeroy's adjusted offensive efficiency AND adjusted defensive efficiency. The following are the only teams currently ranked in both metrics:

Although we seemingly are on a roller coaster ride with 'Cuse this year; its metrics would indicate a deep drive into the NC. Discuss!

Taking a quick look at the past data, about 100% of the top 3 KenPom teams each year meet your criteria. And those teams won the title every year between 2004 to2010 and in 2012.

Sure there have been two bottom of the top 10 outliers in 2003 Orange and 2011 UConn, but the real reason the trend holds is because one of the top three teams have won the tourney 80% of the time.
