The good news is we were 13-2 in those games which is no small thing. But, we are playing a lot of close low scoring games. I think part of that is teams are playing us more intelligently than they did earlier in the year. Keep us out of transition, collapse on penetration in the half court, and make us make 3's. Exactly what Cronin said.

Starting in round 2 I think we can expect close, low scoring dogfights. I'm optimistic we can win them but that's how we've been knocked out the last 2 years. We are going to need to grit out some ugly ones I think.

But you must consider what our schedule has looked like over our last 15 games:

12 of those 15 games were against RPI Top 100 teams
We are 7-1 versus the RPI Top 50
(footnote 1)

11 of the 15 games were against projected NCAA Tournament Teams
We are 9-2 versus tourney teams (4-2 away from home)
(footnote 2)

6 of the 15 games were true road games
8 of the 15 games were away from home
We are 5-1 in true road games
We are 6-2 away from home

I know the prevailing wisdom is we are playing an NEC quality schedule and that we can barely beat anyone, but does Kentucky have 9 wins against NCAA tournament teams in their last 15 games? No. Does Duke? No. Does UNC? No.

UK 6-0 versus projected tourney teams
Duke 2-2
UNC 3-2
Kansas 5-3

Nobody has played a tougher slate - or certainly nobody has done better against a tough slate. When you look at our schedule - we've basically been in the NCAA tourney since mid January.

footnotes:
1. RPI through Thurs (several of these teams have bumped up their RPI since then, for instance Cinci was #69 thursday - they could move into top 50 which would make us 8-2)

2. Using Lunardi's latest bracketology

that's a good post right there. Well done.

(footnote 1)Nice post. We have played a lot of games against fairly good teams and managed to win most of them. But we haven't shown any sign over the last 2 months of being the dominant type team that we looked like we could be earlier in the year. For awhile I just thought we were a little bored, but now I'm more concerned that we've lost some form

Well if any SU team is ever going to win these kinds of games, it's this one. If all our wins had been high-scoring routs (clearly the expectation of many posters), people would be wondering how this team would respond in these meat grinder games. I think we already have a pretty good idea.
