He was put into a situation that he should not have been in, especially after sitting for so long.

Yes, Pitt did a great job guarding G on the in-bounds. Trevor gets the ball & streaks downcourt with seconds left.

However, here is the rub. I did not see anybody else flashing downcourt & open ahead of Trevor. So as bad as that last shot was, he was put in a position where he basically had to hoist it up as he did or drive to the basket knowing it was do or die. I think perhaps not being able to see the shot clock probably caused him to panic and do the pathetic end of game hoist as there was still plenty of time left for a drive (where maybe he gets fouled). Six seconds is forever, and sadly, an experienced team panicked in that situation by not running the floor and getting somebody open.

Bottom line, we had plenty of end of season chances and did not get it done. We do not deserve a bid. I won't complain come selection Sunday if we are out.

I mostly agree with you...it's always on the coach to put a player in a position to succeed and clearly JB didn't do that yesterday. How many guys can come off an extended stay on the bench and hit a last-second shot? Pretty much none.

I can't remember Cooney hitting one game winner the whole time he's been here and for sure he's had plenty of opportunities. For some guys the game slows down under pressure and they're calm and can think clearly (obviously GMac and the Pearl but also Flynn, Sherm, Rautins, we've had a lot of them). But for others, the game speeds way up in pressure situations, they can't think and they get crazy (See Harris, P). Cooney's in that category. And you're right, he never should have been put in that situation, especially given his history over four years.

The ball should have been only in two guys hands who can get to the hoop--G and Richardson. The first mistake JB made was Richardson in-bounding the ball, the second was having Cooney in there at all.
