And one week later most of you are shorting the hell out of it.

Interesting. One week does not a season make. It's a really, really, young team. Probably the youngest I can remember in the last 25 years or so.

I still believe this team can and will make a bowl this season - but to think there wouldn't be some bumps in the road along the way is pretty silly.

I fully expect a 180 this week against a very desperate UVA football team. It will definitely be a battle and there will be no excuses to show up flat.

Bullough saying today's practice was fantastic and that USF played 10,000 times harder last week than they have all season, holding blocks, etc is telling. Desperate team playing for their coaches job. I imagine we will see the same at UVA. Need a win badly. Come into Pitt on an upswing

SU did not play well in that game. It reminded me if the Vilinova game last year. They looked slow and lifeless. Basically no one played well. I suspect the heat was factor I think it changes back this week as well.

Meaning that we'll be the desperate team playing for our coaches job? ;)

Agreed.

Agreed. We are gradually getting better, but to think that this is going to be a straight-line assent is silly. Ups and downs. Let's just hope there are are a few more ups than downs. And then on to next year.

Any BTW, the best team does not always win a given game. And that is not a shot at USF in any way.

We’ve won a few we shouldn’t (2012 Pinstripe Bowl, 2013 Texas Bowl perhaps?) and lose a few that, perhaps, we should’ve won (10-9 setback at Louisville in 2009, the infamous home loss in ’97 to NC State).

One game is such a small sample. So many factors come into play. Home–road. Weather. Wind. Humidity. Young team-veteran team. Thursday night vs. Noon on Saturday. Injuries. Injuries. Quality of depth. Of lack of quality depth.

That is why, personally, I try not to go overboard in either direction. That's me. But, honestly, others do (and they are nuts!).

And let’s be honest with ourselves, the margin between any BCS team not ranked in the top 10 and most G5 teams is pretty darn small. Temple beat Penn State. BC beat USC last year. Toledo won at Arkansas last month. Central Michigan almost beat us this year. Now USF just did. Our loss on Saturday was a bummer. Call it disappointing. Both fair. But it is not a indictment on Shafer or on SU football. It was a snapshot of what happened on a given October Saturday afternoon in Tampa. If we played them again next week, same site, the outcome could easily be vastly different.

This is a fluid situation, so to make concrete declarations is futile.
For anyone, including myself (so this whole reply is now void, right?)!!!

One of the issues we have as fans is adding all the years of futility onto this staff (only 3rd year, 1st year OC) and players (many of which are in their 1st-2nd season playing).

So when it starts to look hopeful we jump at it and say "finally" and then when it dips back we grind our teeth and remember the last 12 years.

It's a process for us that goes back decades. But for them it's like year 3 or 4 max.

I have come to expect the worst and am pleasantly surprised when things actually go right. Whatever can go wrong will go wrong.

I think this team comes up short at the end of the year.

I'm long SU football as long as Dungey is here.

I'm just not sure who is going to be coaching him

Sounds familiar...then I do it all over again to myself on Sunday's as a Brown's fan. Wash, rinse...repeat. :(:bat:
