Last year, we knew almost right away on the kids that were leaving

They have until May 1.

Kinda need to see who's coming back at each school before the musical chairs begins.

Didn't Braswell take a while? Also, if I remember correctly, we didn't know about Frank for quite some time.

Bras announced he was leaving first

then Kadary,

then Woody

Kadary took a few days but the others we learned about right away. I would think this week
we would learn who is leaving and who is staying.
Didn’t Kadary announce at the very end of March, almost April and Quincy and Braswell didn’t announce till almost the end of April. I can’t recall about Newton.

Quincy to NBA: March 29

Braswell: March 29

Kadary: March 30

Woody: April 6

Quincy to the portal: April 30

Syracuse loses to Houston: March 27

In the portal:
Braswell: March 29
JBA: March 29
Kadary: March 30
Woody: April 6
Quincy: April 30

So three within the first three days, Woody a week after that, and Quincy a few weeks later.

EDIT: or just listen to OrangeXtreme, who was quicker on the trigger. Quincy put his name in the draft at the end of March and entered the portal at the end of April.

Yeah, March 28, March 29. Remember, we went to the sweet 16 last year. So that was pretty quick right after we got back from playing Houston. Just looked it up, we played Houston on march 27, so as I said, we found out pretty quickly about guys last year. I suspect that will be the case this year.

So far its been around 2 days to a week(after conference tourney elimination) for the smaller school transfers to come out.

Last year it seemed like the staff sideswiped when some of the guys left, it sounded like they talked things out but guys hit the portal anyway. This year Boeheim basically was throwing out names of guys that could portal and people acted all butthurt. I like it. And they are bringing many more recruits.

We didn't know if Frank was going or staying till very late I think.

Even though Jimmy didn't officially commit until later rumors were flying around that he was coming quite early on. Whether that played a role with Braswell leaving not sure.

Quincy wasn't coming back NBA or not.

I think most assumed Woody was gone.

Ryan Blackwell said at a watch party he heard Kadary was leaving back in January, I think Woody did a video with Kadary then deleted it right?

I wonder if Mintz's status may affect who comes or goes this year?

I hope Jesse returns, I think he has a good relationship with Griff.

I am thinking we will find out about Cole quickly.

Yes about Kadary, but I, like a lot of people, was surprised when Quincy decided to enter the transfer portal on April 30th. We had assumed like many previous SU players that if he didn’t decide to stay in the draft, that he would return to SU not finish his career elsewhere though.

Are we more concerned about announcements from the current roster, or announcements from players at other schools who may be guys we’d like to pursue?

I mean we have spots available if a desirable target enters the portal and I think we may want to consider some guys regardless of what currently rostered guys choose to do.

Even though the players have a deadline to jump into the portal, is there any advantage if a school starts the off season by assuming all players are portal bound? In other words, at the exit interview ask the player are you coming back? If yes then a spot is held, if no then a spot is available for portal pounding, if may be I don't know still trying to decide whatever we go portal pounding until you decide and you run the risk of being recruited over and nudged into the portal.

Yes, but -

Due to Q declaring for the draft, JB had no choice but to try to backfill his position.

So he did.

Consider the opposite - Q declares, JB “holds his spot” and doesn’t take Junior and/or Swider.

Q leaves anyway.
And we’re totally screwed.

It would have been coaching malpractice not to try to land replacement players.

But doing so likely solidified Q’s decision not to return and hit the portal instead (since he was undraftable, and likely still is).
And wanting to “showcase his perimeter game”.

So, since our season ended earlier does that change when kids make announcements or does it not matter because they're waiting to see what happens elsewhere?

Yes.
