Just got back and haven't been able to read much yet and wanted to spout my customary post-road-trip recap.

First, there is no good way to get from Cincinnati to Raleigh. Drove in my first snow of the winter in WVa. on I77...

Got to the Backyard Bistro about 330 and we had 80%+ of the patrons there.
Now I've been to my fair share of road games over the years, and always had encountered a few CNY residents at them but I talked to a crap ton (30+ is a small sample but ill call it representative) of my fellow Orange-clad folks and I was the only one I that did not currently reside in the Tarheel State. Was talking to some one NC State fan prior about the crowd and he was really surprised. Said no other road team ever had that many fans here. Ever. No one. Said a lot right there. He seemed to respect toe program and knew that Carrier and IBM had relocated a lot of yankees in early 90's, but wasn't aware how many transplants were there. That first ACC tourney we are gonna own Greensboro. The Bistro was awesome by the way for a double as free parking with a receipt in the window.

For the game, I had a good feeling about Dirty hitting some coming in and I was glad it came to pass. I apologized in advance to a lady with a 3 or 4 year old girl in front of me and I don't think I cussed. Much. We were definitely loud though and they were not at all prepared for it. When drowed out their wolf-pack chants a couple times. They did a really good jobs hitting shots and rotating to get the entry pass to the elbow and hitting those 8-12 foot jumpers in the lane. Really good game for their #21. Was all over the place and killed us with the above plays. They shot 56%, outrebounded us, and lost by 16. We're pretty good.

What kind of a fanbase needs cheering instructions? Seriously? That pregame "FAN 101" course was embarrassing to watch and then they showed that need of remedial basketball rules as every call against them was booed, even the blatant ones.

Leaving the guy in front said "easily the most obnoxious fans ever" I said we knew it, but I think it is a loud obnoxious and not a rude one. We show up and we cheer at the tops of our lungs for our team. He then congratulated me. There was a lot of shouting in the parking lot. One guy said "yea good job beating an unraked team" to which I mentioned that they didn't cover so they suck more than Vegas thinks they did.

I will also say the white trash stuff could stem from association to Orange County, NC. Leaving on 85 as soon as I crossed into Orange county there were lots of trailers. Not that I think mobile home owners are trash, but you know where I am going with this.

All in all, it was a great roadtrip and I take great joy in the revelation minicuses' bride knows the entire population of the triangle and guaranteed I would have tickets to future games in the DeanDome/Cameron. I would lay huge odds for those schools limiting tickets as much as they can. Maryland, Ga. Tech, FSU and Wake will be happy to take our money. I think Swofford was fully aware of the CNY transplants and is a brilliant leader. They might want to start selling beer.

I like the notion of pissing off the Dixieland fans in future years. I will also note the observation one NC State/Hurricanes had about Sabres fans taking half their building. They should have seen this coming.

Oh, and for the NC State lurkers, know that somewhere in a dark corner of the RBC Center, a lone Otto the Orange has been planted. Syracuse has infected your building forever.

LGO!

a...that's going in the pool for post of the year.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say that it's not that easy to single out the obnoxious SU fan in an opponents arena ;)

I read the final sentence of your post to my wife. That was an awesome post. Way to represent Orange Nation in a hostile environment...
