Wow, poor guy he must be hurting. JB & JC bounced back so fast that when I heard that Steve had the same thing I expected him to bounce back right away too.

During his announcing days he was always respectful toward the Syracuse program JB and fan friendly at courtside in the Dome.

The good news is that he's cancer free. Here's wishing him the best results in his recovery.

I'm a big Lavin fan.

though I don't know all the details of his personal situation, his case likely demonstrates the reason the medical groups have recently come out to say DON"T get a PSA test now, this due to the problems associated with treatment can actually be worse than the disease course itself all too often. Tread lightly it seems may be the best course for this disease.

I am also a fan of Lavin. Never really cared for him at UCLA, but listening to him as a commentator really made me a fan. I hope he comes back better than ever.

I can't remember what game it was this week but he was on the half time show. He didn't look good. Probably the best thing for him to do at this point.

He should have never come back after the surgery so quickly in the first place. He probably would be almost ready by now had he just laid low.

You have to think there are complications. I don't know anything about it, but if they did radiation therapy, there can be significant downsides. Radioactive "seeds" are surgically implanted. If not put into the right places with the right doses, other machinery down there can be destroyed.

Hopefully Steve is getting good care from his stuning wife Mary Ann

As someone who has had prostate cancer, I can argue strongly FOR getting a regular PSA test once you are over 40. The PSA is simply an indicator that there may be something that needs following up. It does not, by itself, mean that you should have surgery or treatment.

A quality urologist will do further testing before making any kind of decision about treatment or surgery. I would hate to hear about anyone who had waited until prostate cancer had progressed too far before it was diagnosed.

Get your yearly PSA and go to a good urologist for followup.

Gotta agree, compadre. All you males will get prostate cancer if you live long enough. Find it while you can make the decisions about what to do, rather than being forced to take the only options available. I have to think that Lavin had some complications.

Agree. My guess is that he had the prostate removed and because the cancer had spread beyond the margins he had 30 days of radiation treatments. The will sure take the starch out of you!

Always liked him, nothing but respect for the man, hope he gets better!!!

If you are right, he would have benefitted from earlier detection, just as you recommended.
