LAX Action for April 13-14

Anyone have any thoughts on Hop imploding? I was watching for the first half and it looked like they were going to cruise. SHOCKED when I saw the final. They are good as dead with Twerps and Ped State left on the schedule...

Looking at their losses so far they struggle in the 2nd half. Not sure if their coaches are not making good adjustments, lack of depth, etc.

Lack of depth is the big reason in my opinion along with a very ordinary offense. Hopkins attack is pretty good Epstein is very nasty but beyond that their isnt a lot there. Their midfield has been atrocious and Zinn the frosh middie with the highest ceiling has not played much which is bizarre. It's the dame Defensively, good starting group but only 2 ssdms so they inevitably get worn down and Foley hasnt been as good as he was last year. They got worn out.

Maryland la offense is sneaky good, just scored like 4 goals in 3 min against Rutty. No real depth but that starting 6 can be real dangerous especially with that faceoff depth

Yup you hit on every point I think I've seen Hopkins fans complain about this season.
Their midfield is very underwhelming, what happened to Desimmone this season?

Yeah they're not as flashy as a Penn State but when they get rolling they can light it up.

Off topic a bit, but Colgate lost to perennial powerhouse Holy Cross this weekend and is now 3-8. How did we lose to them??

Maryland is a dangerous selection for large point spreads, as Tillman likes to run clock with large leads in the 4th quarter.

Ugh 1-3 again. Only OSU came through 22-20.

Lax should just go to the alternate possession rule.. take the ball out at the baseline and clear it..

a faceoff to start each quarter/half and thats it.

Been there (1979). Done that (except they gave it to the offense at the restraining line). Didn't like the t-shirt (abandoned the idea and went back to faceoffs in 1980). That whole season, some JHU fans added to the "We want more" of their counting of the goals "Faceoffs!"

So right Zack80, I was going bananas the last 3 mins of the game. They had an open net opportunity and decided to lob the ball to the far corner. I thought Maryland would dominate face-offs from the start, didn't expect them to fall behind by so much early. Oh well, at least they won.

I think it would probably be good to remove the face-offs, and give the ball to the team, that was scored on, the ball behind their own goal (sort of like basketball). They would still have to clear it, which can be tough against a 10-man ride. In the end, it would lead to a fairer game that didn't depend so much on specialists.

My recollection is that in 1979, there was no time limit on clears. I recall teams walking the ball up and if it didn't look good they would go backwards and start again. Clearing could be rather boring in those days. I imagine that because of this, they chose to give it to the non-scoring team at the restraining line back in 1979.

So in a sense we haven't really been there. The new 20-seconds to clear, make the clearing game much more challenging and interesting.

some teams are getting killed because of X issues.. others getting a huge help.

in hockey a dominant faceoff guy goes 60/40, but in Lax there are games closer to 90/10 and teams never even touch the ball.

It came as a surprise to me but Syracuse has had clear advantage this year in the face-off X. In fact, without the fine performance of Phaup and Varello--especially in the second halves--I think the Orange would be closer to 6-5 than 8-3. So, for the time being, I'm pretty good with keeping the face-off rules the way they are.
