I don’t think Barrett is really an LB. He plays DE almost exclusively in his film and almost all the plays are passing plays where he rushes the QB. He might be able to be converted into an LB but even at 220 pounds, he doesn’t seem to me to run like we like our LBs to run. To me, he is a DE who is going to have to do some work to get bigger to get on the playing field. Would be a pass rushing specialist early. I think he is fast enough to occasionally switch to LB on selected plays but i think he is a DE. Russo is a born LB. Looking at his film, I was struck by his quickness to the ball and his relative slightness. He looked skinny on some of the plays and much better filled out on others. Not sure if they included some old film in that or if it was just the angle. But he might be more like 205ish right now. I think his frame looks good and he will fill out nicely and I really like his overall athleticism. It really stood out on the hoops highlights. If it were up to me, I would want Russo more. Surprised WVU is talking about using Barrett at their bandit position. Maybe it makes sense for their scheme. I don’t see him at LB in our scheme and certainly do not see him playing rover for us. Now Russo at rover….that might be a good fit.
