It should be noted that since DeShields enrolled at Pitt, Syracuse has made significant inroads to Millville HS, his old high school.
We recruited LeQuint Allen. We recruited Ta'Ron Haile. And we added DeShields' old HS coach Dennis Thomas to our staff.
And added an enormous number of players from surrounding high schools in NJ that DeShields would know. Along with a number of other coaches with strong NJ ties.
I don't think it is a secret that the Pitt program is in trouble. They lost or fired almost all their staff, including most or all of the coaches with ties to NJ.
So it would be a natural and logical thing for Pitt players to want out and Syracuse is the natural and logical place for someone from NJ in general and Millville specifically, to look to try and get into.
This is what happens when one school focuses on a state and another state chooses to largely abandon it.
