College ended up being the option because of an academic scholarship but also came with sizable loans and work study. Military was the alternative if academic scholarship didn't cut it. Nothing wrong or better with either path but I don't  believe that paths should be so limited coming from a poorer background which is essentially part of the current issue and reality that SL debt and cost of education continue to drive.

The stigma associated with those who have loans as being elitist or well off and thus undeserving or whiny in some contexts makes no sense. It's a broad brush being painted and wrong.

When someone wants to point fingers and claim i want a handout ill ask them if they started manual labor in gradeschool and then started their first job the first day it was legal. Very few would answer yes.
