McF***it, 5.78 yards per play, 21.6 ppg
Lester, 4.67 yards per play, 18.25 ppg

ND, Lousville defense vs Clemson, FSU is a push

i know there are lots more factors than just who's calling plays.

but it's still worth looking at.

this isn't about whether they should've demoted McDonald. it's about next year

McD - T. Hunt
Lester - AJ Long

The problem with trying to figure out anything right now is that we 'ed up the equation by having 2 massive variables in the same equation. Did McD get more yards because he's a better OC or because he had Hunt, Broyld, and Estime for most of the time he was the OC? There's no way to know.

I don't know that broyld and hunt mean more yards than long and ishmael

i am very skeptical of the Western Michigan passing game tree. they can't run the ball and they aren't very efficient passers. throw it 40 times and get 300 yards, whoopdeedoo

there are way better coaching trees to look at. why are we going with some worthless midmajor that has never been that good?

Its actually worse on the ppg if you remove defensive scores.

Without a doubt, we are one of the worst P5 offenses in the country this season (statistically and eye-test). For long stretches during games recently I am at a loss as to how we will gain a first down. It is deflating for sure..

I don't want to rehash the McDonald v. Lester debate in entirety as I don't have the time right now but I definitely remember many of the board "experts" saying that the switching of McDonald and Lester would cure the ppg problem. That prediction hasn't quite worked out as its gotten worse on the ypg and ppg.

Think part of the fan base/board problem is trying to isolate one or two issues for a quick fix when the program problems are multi-layered and institutional (administration, coaching, player personnel, fanbase, recruiting, etc.). These are trying times for this program and we are in a very precarious postion moving forward. Unbelievably, it can get worse moving forward if we don't finish strong this season.

Having said that, I am at every game as SU sports are my passion outside of real life. Its a generational thing that I'm passing onto my boys too. We'll stick by the football program as long as I'm still walking and know that the hoops program will always be there to help Cuse football hangover if we don't go bowling.

BEAT DUKE!!

lester has cured the discrepancy between points and yards by getting fewer yards

spread to run works. mcdonald screwed it up with silly stuff. lester runs a worse offense more competently

i want a good offense run competently

It seems like our offense is just so vanilla. We used to complain about so many bubble screens, now we literally run zero. So all the prep time wasted? I'm not saying we should go back to it, but I guess the D is always playing for it?

We don't have any regular screen passes setup. We don't do any WR slip screens that so many burn us on.

It just seems like our running game is Gulley up the middle, or Phillips coming across. That's it. Our passing game looks like it's either find a soft spot in the zone, or throw it outside and hope our WRs come down with it. There's nothing overly complex about anything we do.

Now throw in that we can't block up front from one of the guard spots, and only somewhat from the center, and we become a pretty easy offense to scheme against.

You're forgetting how many times we run reverses in order to pass.

You all have to remember that Lester is still running McD's offense. I think the results would be a better if Lester was running his scheme.

Sadly, if SWC asked my question on Thursday, I bet that's the answer he would get.

I'm not sure I want the offense Lester does.

we're going to run the ball over there which will surprise the defense. they won't be expecting that

then we'll run it back to where the defense is.

at which point we'll toss it backwards.

then our guy will catch it where we've led everyone to be.

then that guy will throw it. we want to be multiple. we'll have two handoffs a lateral and a throw

Minus the bubble screens. Which probably drops him to 50% of the offense.

Lester is playing with half a team, playing with a true frosh QB and using an O that he doesnt completely agree with. In addition he has had to cut the playbook in half because of all of the newbies. In spite of this Lesters O just seems to pass the eye test more than George. Who knows but i think that with Lester we beat Maryland and possibly ND
