limited players

Smaller rotation can work particularly at the end of the season. However when the same five players get almost all the minutes all season they wear out at the end. Also when the team is not winning it does not make a lot of sense.

Like us both programs have won with long and short benches. If your 7 are mostly interchangeable and include two guys who can legit play the 5 and two guys who can legit play the 1- that goes a long way. That said you really need them to be 7 starters in essence too.

Villanova played 6 guys because their one player who averaged 32 minutes a game tore his Achilles. But their is a giant difference in playing a short bench in a final four and doing it the entire year.

We had 4 guys average OVER 34 minutes a game.

Duke had 0 over 34 and only 3 guys between over 30 (33, 33, 30)

Kansas had 2 over 34 and only 2 over 30 (34, 35)

Villanova had 2 over 34 and only 3 over 30 (30, 34,34)

UNC had 1 over 34 and 4 over 30 (34, 33, 31, 30)

Also, I don’t think anyone would argue that the guys playing those minutes on those teams are more talented then the guys playing those minutes on our team.

I wouldn't say only 3 playing 30 for Nova. That is a lot. And as far as the guys being better than our guys (goes without saying) that is irrelevant. Our back ups weren't good enough to play in the coach's opinion. We would fall behind if they came in the game. Whether the starters were better or not.

I find it amusing and quite interesting how some choose or can't seem to comprehend the difference playing 'basically' only 6 guys when that said team is a Top 5, Top 10 type team (that has stud/high P5 level type players) vs. a team that clearly doesn't. And, one that isn't anywhere near the Top 40, let alone Top 10. But that's me. ;)

One thing that kept average minutes down for those teams--they won a lot of blowouts over the course of the season, and were able to sit their starters at the end of games.

we had 4 players in the top 20 MPG in the ACC. most coaches will shorten the bench in the tournament. we shorten it all season .
