Syracuse has sacked the opposing QB 18 times on the season (an insane number, considering they had 0 against Ohio). Florida State has 13 sacks on the season.

Syracuse has allowed a middling (but improved) 9 sacks on the year. Florida State has allowed 15.

Cuse is averaging 196 yards on the ground per game this season. Florida State is averaging 187.

Cuse is allowing 85 rushing yards per game. FSU is allowing 132.

If our OL can hold up against their DL, and our front 6 can take advantage of their OL, we should have a good day on Saturday.

That’s what’s so encouraging about this team. Line play is the thing that holds us back normally. Nice to build on it.

What I'm reading here is that we have a moral imperative to kick Florida State in the grundle.

Right up in there

DL needs to constantly bring pressure. Start playing on their heels and the ground game yardage will build up in big chunks.

OL needs to chill with the penalties. This will easily be their steepest challenge of the year despite FSU‘s 0-4 record. That team is loaded with elite talent.

Schrader needs some time. That first play of the game against Liberty was brilliant. He just missed Alford on that long ball... I loved the play call though. They are going to HAVE to stretch the field against FSU. Maybe we see a few Tommy series for that exact reason.

ENOUGH WITH THE FOCKING PENALTIES!!!! The discipline on this team is UNGOOD, to put it lightly.

LFGO!

FSU right now is big play driven. last week 200 yds rushing 100 on 2 plays and 100 on the other 30.. Much like ND they had 240.. 115 on 2 carries and 120 on the other 45
We need to limit the big plays they thrive on to carry the offense. They do the same thing in the passing game.

1000% percent spot on. Dont bite on any double moves keep everything in front of us

This is why I love when conference play starts. Numbers are great but strength of schedule in pre-conference can often be a hint of things to come or a smoke and mirrors exposure waiting to happen. Excited to see where we stand Saturday with an FSU team that is down, but has definitely swum in deeper water this year than we have.

Penalties were much improved against Liberty, but all the bad snaps didn't help make things look better.

2 false starts on the OL, no holding. Would rather 0 false starts, but better than last week. Thankfully one was first down, half the distance, which we easily overcame.

1 penalty for holding on specials.

2 penalties on the defense. 1 for the the top 10 list of most obvious face masks in football history. 1 for the illegal substitution where the 12th and 13th players only had about 20 more yards to run to get off the field in time.

LOL - yeah, the only way that face mask penalty on GCA is any more obvious, was is if the helmet came off and was still in his hand.
(bonus points if the players head is still inside it. :p )

Side note - anybody else notice that GCA seems to be the Ravian Pierce of the D?

Athletic playmaker, who is also a penalty magnet.
Seems like he has at least 1 penalty a game, often a bad one.

ROAD TEST...
We know FSU has the physical talent to play with almost anyone. But being 0-4...
WHERE'S THEIR HEAD AT??!!
Our game with Liberty was a max physical effort. First road game since the opener...
HOW MUCH GAS WE GOT IN THE TANK??!!
FSU fell behind WFU and L'ville early. Can CUSE break the 'noles "spirit"?
Can we limit penalties to 7 or below again...that's BIG for CUSE.
Can Szmyt kick from 45 outdoors?
FSU is gonna put 11 in the box, plus the horse, chief and flaming spear.
Can CUSE make them pay?
Are we "good" or below average outside the dome.
I hope we like the answers to these questions...

Ive noticed that his entire career. Mostly seems to be late and unnecessary stuff, blows up guys on kickoffs...always been like that. He's a mean nasty dude and I can live with guys like that on defense.

Talking more about the first 3 games in general. They're trending in the right direction, but I have PTSD after the penalties in weeks 1 & 2.

My PTSD is from week 3. Following up the Albany game penalty fiasco with a 3rd down false start on the first drive of Liberty was, in olden times, a throw the shoe through the TV moment.

And, given week 3, the bad snaps just felt like penalties.

That's why only 5 pleasantly surprised me. No holding calls was key though. OL really did a great job blocking.

We only had 4 penalties vs Ohio

Rutgers and Albany were the outliers and at least 1/2 of those calls were &^%*. Someone mentioned there was overlap in those zebra crews also?

The heat and humidity worries me... You would think FSU would be more acclimated
I agree! All the more reason that they can control clock and run the ball. Keep their defense on the field and cuse off the field
