Dropped a profanity during a game and was fired due to their zero tolerance policy.

I get zero tolerance as it pertains to some issues, but this case seems a bit excessive. Kids need learn that second chances are ok too.

Wilcox was a local legend. He will be hard to replace. I guess Boeheim couldn't coach at Liverpool.

I hope the kids don't watch "Hard Knocks". It could destroy their character.

Zero Tolerance is a policy alot of schools like to use for many different situations. It's also an incredibly stupid policy.

Zero tolerance policies are all the rage, but they are really stupid. You only need zero tolerance policies because those making decisions can't trust themselves to discipline appropriately and on occasion cut slack when circumstances warrant.

It's sad because it is the kids who lose in the end, as usual. I can tell you that Mangicaro and his past assistants swore plenty when they coached. To be fair maybe it wasn't his decision but the relatively new superintendant's. Coach Wilcox is a quality person and an excellent coach. Something has been going on for years within the district and their sports teams. I remember the Pool had 2 athletic directors for a couple of years when Mangicaro fought his firing. Guess he won. They have declined steadily in the past decade despite facility upgrades (replaced turf field etc). The jv coach took over the team for Friday's game and they lost to Oswego believe it or not. I watched the bb team play earlier this year and they are a very small team.

Jerry will be okay. He has to be close to 70 but his career shouldn't have ended this way at all. He's had a positive effect on thousands of CNY players over his 40 years of coaching CYO at St Bridgets, then at Ludden, West Genny and Liverpool.

I played basketball at Ludden for Coach Donnelley, but at the time Coach Wilcox was not coaching anywhere else and was still a big part of the program at practices. He was an "old school" coach who knew the game as well as anyone on the area and had a great sense of humor to boot. He went on to WG and L'Pool and had success at both schools. The fact that L'Pool would let him go like they did is short-sighted and if I were a parent I would be pissed. Look at the players that he has produced over the years adn the men that they have become. There is more to this story than meets the eye and for some reason L'pool had it on for Wilcox. I am going to a Ludden hoops reunion on Monday and the majority of these guys are "Wilcox guys" and are successful guys who have moved on to bigger and better things in life. The L'Pool team and future payers should be so lucky and Coach Wilcox had a lot to do with their success. We love you Coach and I hope that you end up on your feet.

I'd like to go on the record to say that Liverpool should recruit alum Jeff Cheevers to come back and coach. He's available after his AD/HC gig at Cardinal Gibbons (where Babe Ruth went to school, a power in the B'more Catholic league) ended when the school shut down. He's a great coach and might come home for it.
