Looking Ahead 2026: Amare Gough

Amare Gough was one of the biggest gems in this class, bringing the exact YAC ability we love in a wide receiver—speed, explosiveness, and the ability to turn short routes like hitches and comebacks into big plays, just as Fran mentioned during his signing day press conference. He has many of the same traits as Cook, including elite yards-after-catch ability and elusiveness, and reading his tweet today made me realize I might be overlooking just how impactful he can be. I truly believe Gough will be one of our breakout freshmen next season, and I can’t wait for spring ball to see all the young freshmen and redshirt freshmen on this team—the future is bright.

This tweet showed me that these young players coming in are hungry and ready to take spots from older players on this team. Maybe not Gough, since the wide receiver room is loaded, but I do believe other players will earn starting roles as true freshmen in my opinion.
