Looking Ahead 2026: Darius Boobie Johnson

Maybe I’m overhyping the kid, but I genuinely think Boobie Johnson has the potential to become WR2 if Gill really hits the portal like a poster mentioned today. Johnson can line up both inside and outside, and he still managed to show flashes throughout the season despite the inconsistent quarterback play. He popped in the spring game as well, and with another full year in the strength and conditioning program, he should be bigger, stronger, and more explosive. He’s got reliable hands, and I believe he can be a special player for us next year. What’s your thoughts? Do you agree or disagree?

He’s very good and if not for his injury and Angeli’s, he would have been a factor this season.

I think we'll have the prerequisite talent at WR. My worry isn't so much with Johnson or Russell, but what I need to see is the dude that is going to get the tough 50/50 ball that can get us 8 yards on the 3rd and 7 when he's hand fighting the whole way.

I think Johnson has a lot of talent. Wouldn't surprise me if he popped next year and made a big impact.

I think the Juco kid we just signed and I believe if Calvin Russell can put on weight and gain strength he can be a 50/50 guy as well. I believe that Boobie Johnson is the secret weapon in the room and he will show teams why they should have offered him in HS. Happy we were able to flip him last year from Troy.

The JUCO we just signed has Jackson Meeks written all over him. Hope he has 2 years left and not just one though.

Almost the entire WR room got recruited over. Bringing in Merriweather, Russell and Gough has got to be eye opening for some guys that already weren't getting a lot of snaps.

One thing I see about Russell is he already has very good size, depending on how he responds in the weight room, he could turn into Megatron out there. But we have him as a freshman, I am curious how quickly he responds to the next level. I am glad we picked up Merriweather, and have talented seniors Cook and Gill to make sure the young players don't have to carry the load by themselves.
