Looking ahead to Marshal on Tuesday night; this isnt a December cupcake game.

Marshal started the season 5-0, with an overtime win at Cincy, before dropping their last game to Ohio. This is a very balanced team, with Dennis Tinnon and Robert Goff averaging 10 points per game, and Damier Pitts at 13.5. DeAndre Kane a sophomore who last year was Conference USA's Newcomber of the Year, is the leading scorer at 15.8.

Marshall was 22-12 last year, and returns 5 players who started at least 12 games each. Athlon is picking them to finish 2nd in Conference USA (behind Memphis), and is also picking them to make the NCAA tourney (first four).

Looking forward to Tuesday night, should be a good test coming off such a big win.

Is Marshal a new D1 team? I know of Marshall, are they sister schools?

In his presser Jim said they may be the best team we have played yet - but he says that a lot.

Nice post Bona, you are correct and we had better take this team seriously. A letdown now could be a big problem. We are not back to cupcakes just because Florida has left town. George Washington, NC St, Bucknell and Tulane are all fairly good teams that could knock us off if there is any let down. But Marshall is probably the best of them.

This is a very good team and if we dont come to play this will be an L. Tough game to follow the Florida game.

They look good when you look at some of their individual players but when they go up against competition as a team they are no where near as good as Florida or even Stanford. Their offense is weak. They rank # 155 in ppg at 69.7. They are # 198 in assists and they shoot only 43.1% from the field. These figures suk. The only thing they excel at is rebounding where they avg 41.7 a game. We average 39.5. I expect the Herd to fold in the second half.

NIT state will be a tougher test especially on their home court. GW will also be an easy win. I don't know anything about Bucknell this year.

Grammer police? LMAO

Nice, I see you took the bait on "grammer." So is this how you got to 1,800+ posts in a little over 3 months?

I think it will be a tight game. Historically it seems like this is a game they typically lose.

Will be a challenge, no doubt. Marshall is 5-1 with a win over Cincy.

Marshall is a very good team ... as posters have already mentioned they have beat Cincy and are now 5-1. They can put in a pretty big front court (they have a 7'2 guy and a 6'10 at 235#) ... Their forwards are pretty comparable to ours as well. I can see where they pick up a lot of rebounds. Suspect is their shooting from outside. This is not a team to look past. I have watched Bucknell and have not been impressed ... I don't think they have the team they have had in the past.
Tulane is the question mark ... they are like 9-0 with a win against Georgia Tech yesterday.

Sounds like if their inside game is able to establish position and grab rebounds, it's got the potential to be ugly; we're due for one of those nights where some unheard of (and never to be heard from again) nobodies goes off from beyond the arc and drains everything. I hate when that happens.

They are a very good team only if you define very good as ranking #155 in ppg, ranking #198 in assists per game and shooting 43% on average per game. They are big and can rebound. This game should not be close. JB is doing his job to make sure that the players do not look beyond Marshall, but the Herd is not a tourney team.

It shouldn't be that close, but I don't think it will be a blowout either. Marshall is in the running for the best team behind Memphis in CUSA. SU and Marshall are also 1-2 in the country offensive rebounding percentage, but the best team they've beaten is Cincy.

I'm not saying that Syracuse shouldn't beat them. I am saying that they are a good team and has been posted expected to be #2 behind Memphis in the CUSA ... and Memphis is a very good team. Do not take them for granted and don't look past them.

Marshall is NOT a very good team.. They are a decent team. I was at the UC - Marshall game and they had no business beating UC. Their PG (Pitts) is decent but not better than the FL guards or EMU PG, can hit the open jumper. Tinnen is a decent forward and Kane is an athletic 2G that doesn't realize he can't shoot. Their 2 guards take almost 1/2 their shots. UC lost because Mick Cronin is afraid to let his kids play. Great recruiter, terrible coach. Should be another 20-30 pt win.

We'll see. JB usually is spot on about OOC games when he says he sees a team that will give us trouble. I expect a tight game.

We are Marshall! Perhaps you are but you are going to going to be Marshall with your first loss.
