Obviously, we've seen games where we lost significant leads and ended up losing this year. Others have presented some statistics, such as scoring by half, to illuminate what might be fatigue issues or lack of coaching adjustments in the second half. However, I wondered what the scores by quarter would look like, if in fact, there were quarters:

Sure enough, we see that the Orange have won the cumulative 1st half and lost the 2nd half. But is rather interesting to see that a 9-9 team is 15-2-1 in the first 10 minutes. Given that all of these opponents knew decades in advance that they would be facing a zone right out of the gate, and of course, that many of these teams have battled the zone several times, it is a bit surprising that it still catches them off guard to such a degree (note that it is the 'quarter' of least offensive output).

To that end, note that the opponent scoring ramps up with every additional ten minutes. This suggests a lack of defensive adjustment. And while the boys put up more points in the second half than the first, note that the scoring drops off in the second ten minutes of each half. This suggests fatigue even within a half.

Fatigue you say?

i think these stats show a lack of adjustments throughout the game...or that whatever adjustments are being made are not working.

i think the stratgey of the team has become formulaic and see-through...in terms of how it changes predictably throughout the game. JB in his pressers makes a huge emphasis on analyzing the first and second hlaves of games separately...as if they are isolated events. but they arent. i think that indicates that he switches up his approach at different phases of the game...which other teams seem to be exploiting.

I think the team tends to play much more iso offense in the 2nd half...which isnt as good. I think in the first ten minutes there is a much higher emphasis on getting everyone involved and sharing the ball. they see who is hot and who isnt and then decide who to give more shots to. but a better approach would be to just keep sharing the ball all game and stop with the iso.

whatever is happening, the opposing coaches are making better adjustments as the game wears on.

also, obviously, a short bench means players run out of gas at the end of games too. which there isnt really a remedy for other than spread the minutes out.
