Having played him three times in the post-season, I have grown to truly respect K-State's Bill Snyder.

I will be interested to see how his team plays tonight - especially on offense since that's Snyder baliwik.

Jerry has turned the Cotton Bowl into an event again. Positioned well for the end of BCS affliation with the major bowls.

Now if they could just move it back to New Year's Day with the others. Which I know will never happen.

Oh, and I think Snyder is nothing short of amazing given everything he has accomplished there.

for a lot of people my age (or 5 years younger than chip), the cotton bowl has mostly sucked. i remember being a little kid knowing it was supposed to be a big deal but always having a better game to watch. i'm glad it's back.

We're the same age (I think) and have vastly different memories. Montana's comeback against Houston, Flutie and BC playing, SMU-PItt in Marino's last game...up through the mid -80's the Cotton Bowl was one of the games I always watched and looked forward to...when it dropped off was the same time Syracuse started to play on NYD regularly, so the drop off was less noticeable to me because my focus had shifted already.

mid 80s sounds about right. prior to that i pretty much only cared about the orange bowl halftime show.

Very aggressive defenses dominating the first quarter. Mr excitement Gus Johnson is going to need a vocal chord transplant if the level of intensity is maintained. Deeply depressed to think how evenly SU & KSU were matched last year and how we have taken drastically different paths since!

Whoever had 220 yards of total offense by both teams combined at halftime wins... a million dollars.

I always loved the Cotton Bowl.

It was usually the morning game on New Years Day if I recall correctly. I always looked forward to watching Texas, Oklahoma and the other SW Conference powers at that time.

Notre Dame's decision to accept bowl invitations gave the Cotton Bowl even more appeal.

I agree that Jerry Jones has raised the prestige of the game - and that's a good thing.

Um, Oklahoma was never in the SWC - they won a ton of Big 8's and played in the Orange Bowl. But yes, the Cotton Bowl was always an early game on New Year's Day.

You're absolutely right.

I was thinking of the Red River game - that was obviously played during the regular season.

When I think Cotton Bowl, I think Randall "Thrill" Hill leaving the field to celebrate his touchdown and Miami pounding the tar out of Texas.
