Lou Reed - "You're Driving Me Insane"

"Cycle Annie"

While at Syracuse University, Lewis Allen Reed took the initials of his first and middle names to form "LA and the Eldorados", playing many of the frat houses on the SU hill. This 1962 track from the man soon to be known to the world as Velvet Underground founder Lou Reed, already shows his affinity for the darker edge of life.

My favorite Lou Reed song was 'Kill Your Sons' - found it very theatrical, never saw it pop up in a film though.

When Reed was a teenager he was given electroconvulsive treatments to try & cure his bisexuality.

Reed said of this:

"They put the thing down your throat so you don't swallow your tongue, and they put electrodes on your head. That's what was recommended in Rockland State Hospital to discourage homosexual feelings. The effect is that you lose your memory and become a vegetable. You can't read a book because you get to page 17 and have to go right back to page one again."

Kill your sons was written about that experience
