Why does it seem that for almost every year in the last 10+ years, we can't find a QB that can complete basic throws when WR's are open? How is it that even when we play teams like Villanova, Maine, Akron every other QB we face seems to be able to do this basic task.

Do we just never have coaches capable of coaching a QB? It's embarrassing that a 2nd game, true freshman QB, came in and completed most of the passes that he needed to make even with us throwing blitzes at him on a regular basis.

I thought their Qb was garbage.

He was better than Hunt, and he's a true freshman.

Look over our next 7 games. If we're facing a better QB, we'll probably lose.

He was tiny, I can't believe he was 6'3" - was really disappointed that we didn't get to him more, rattle him and force him alone to make plays. Their #23 killed us on the ground, we couldn't tackle that guy before he ran at least 5 yards.

For a true freshman, I thought he was fine. That INT to Whigham was very true freshman-like. But Petrino made it easy on him. Power running game, and then completing safe passes against our zone when they could pick up the blitz.

It always seems like we could never have one of our young QBs playing because it would be disaster. Which I think is part QB recruiting, part WR recruiting, and I'm sure just part offensive staff in general. Looked to me like they just played man, because they had no fear of our WRs beating their DBs, and even if they did, they had no faith in our QB delivering the ball.

Yes and no. Anybody is better than hunt right now. But that kid was nothing. 12-22. One or two good scrambles. Big deal. He missed guys all day. If our O was competent we wouldn't be having this conversation. Never once did I think to myself do I wish we had that kid. Lville has recruited over him to.

I'd bet wilson would've looked a lot better coming off the bench under petrino.

I still can't get over the fact that our 2nd string Qb could only run 10% of the offense (or whatever the quotes were) in that first game. That was inexcusable as a staff and probably should have sent up big red flags.

Did they say how much Long could run?

If it's all about the spread option, then we are very much wasting our time with Wilson getting all the backup reps. That's not his game. At all.

I'm not sure what happened to Kimble. He went from #2 string in the preseason depth chart, to the guy that was working on the side with the QB coach during drills.

If Hunt gets hurt, they might as well give Long some run. He can at least run the running game part of the offense. His passing will be worse, but then again, how much worse? I wouldn't fear burning his redshirt, I'd assume and hope that he's going to be recruited over. And might have already been with the Florida mystery that may or may not return in January.

I know one thing, depending on hunts injury, i'd open up the #2 Qb competition this week. If hunts out, I might give Long some FSU snaps this weekend and roll him out there at wake. At the very least the kid will make something happen with his feet and passing wise we've been throwing sideways anyhow. As far as a red shirt, burn it.

Never meant to imply, "I wish he was on our team". But more, why do other teams have true freshman that can come in and mostly manage the game and put their team in position to win. For his 2nd game, he wasn't amazing but he made plays at times when he needed to. We've rarely had a QB do that in 10+ years.

Rough that we have such good teams these next two games. Seeing if Long has anything would make sense, but not against these opponents.

I think his point is, how do they have a QB who as a freshman is better than Hunt. We know this guys sucked.

That did send up GIANT red flags to some of us, and we were shouted down and reminded how good Villanova is, and that the game was close only because Hunt got tossed-. We've been exposed and I think people are waking up, but the red flags have been there all along if people are objective enough to see them. We have neither the talent, the scheme, or are well coached and disciplined enough to win in this league.

Yeah. That's a game you win at home with your packed house of 20k!

You weren't there

I want SU to be an average team that just won a BCS game and is 5-1 the next year, where do we sign up for this?

Pay for a staff.

Lousiville didn't impress me last night, or have they impressed me all year. That was a very winnable game with a little bit of execution and a little bit of smarts from the coaches.

I would love 5-1...absolutely love it. Until SU gets to that stage which it may never with their OOC schedule and this divsion they are in, we will never see it. Coaches making adjustments and doing the things to win is all I want. Are they impressive, not really but I can not remember the last 5-1 start has had and the last time they won a BCS type game was 1992.

I agree with you there. If anything they should show us that you don't have to be world-beaters to get to 5-1. Also kind of makes it even more frustrating.
