Shafer praising freshman DT Steven Clark for strength, willingness to learn. Still developing use of hands, but progressing well.

Shafer: "I see those young guys learning how to attack and then react much better." For DTs, that includes double teams, moving linemen.

Shafer said mistakes in secondary stem from players' eyes; feet, hands have been good. (Personally) feel like Julian Whigham epitomizes that

Shafer on sending calls to ACC: "I don't like to do it unless like I felt there was a high number of errors." Understands human element.

Part of sending questionable calls in includes finding teaching points for Syracuse players. Shafer sent 11 in after FSU.

ACC coordinator of officiating Dennis Hennigan responded to Shafer, admitting that the refs missed some calls this week.

The process: Positional coaches send possible officiating errors to Shafer, who passes them on to director of video ops Austin Beehner

Shafer said he's pro replay, open to ACC replay center: "At the end of the day, you just want to get the right call."

Shafer says "it's a daily process" for injury recovery with Luke Arciniega and Parris Bennett. Both left FSU game and didn't return.

Wow, impressive.
They just need to get into the RZ more consistently and SU's record is completely different

For years we complained that we couldn't score from the RZ.

Now we complain that we score too fast. :p

Shafer says Lville LB Josh Harvey-Clemons can play up front and drop into coverage like a safety which creates challenging looks for offense

Harvey-Clemons transferred from UGA and tipped the ball against Auburn that led to this memorable touchdown. VIDEO: http://bit.ly/1Ne0wQz

Shafer mentioned Brisly Estime's impact on return games. Here's why:
2014: KO return avg: 18.2yds
2014: Punt return avg: 8.35 yds
2015: KO return avg: 20.74yds
2015: Punt return avg: 19.4yds

Good week of preparation, team is anxious to get down to Louisville - @Coach_Shafer

We have to attack it, learn from mistakes, work on the things at practice that have need for improvement. -@Coach_Shafer on stretch run

Potency of offense & red zone productivity are good signs, need more consistency from young guys - @Coach_Shafer

Like the young guys playing up front on defense, need to continue to improve on the back end of the defense. - @Coach_Shafer

Feels bad for Terrel Hunt's injury situation the last 2 years after great off-season prep. - @Coach_Shafer

Keeping practices not too long but intense & aggressive, giving young guys reps key for keeping fresh for grind of season - @Coach_Shafer

Shafer listing off David Cutcliffe's yearly records at Duke. Says he sees natural similarities in the programs. Helps with the losing streak

Shafer asked if he thinks he'll get the leash Cutcliffe did at Duke. Said it's not something he can control.

Shafer said practices are still aggressive at this point in the season, but they're shorter. Also selective with reps for certain guys.

The staff looks at the practice script each day and determines which players should take off which plays (i.e. DE Ron Thompson on powers)
