i do this every week, get my mindset into us possibly getting a W.. but in looking at this contest vs. Louisville:

we were playing much worse last year, even at 4-2 before we played WV, we were coming of a 37-34 win against one of the worst teams in FBS. our scehdule was easier last year...thought we had no shot last year

louisville has played 6 home games and 3 away games at Pitt, Florida Intl and southern Miss. they havent played an away game at a challenging venue, now hopefully our fans show up and help us in this respect...get out to good start and make it a challenge for bridgewater!

just looking for some positives.. GO ORANGE!!!!!

I think SU can run the table with Mizzou and Temple as Mizzou's offense has pretty much tanked and Temple is well Temple. Lville has been a bad matchup for SU and pretty much a house of horrors for Doug Marrone, we seem to find a new way to lose to them every year. I will be there screaming for a win but to be honest I really dont see us winnign this game.

Well, DM has gotten wins this year over two programs he hadn't beaten yet in Pitt and Uconn. Maybe he can complete the trifecta this Saturday. Why not?:noidea:

I certainly wouldnt mind it, I think it will be close but with our self inflicted mistakes I worry we will do ourselves in again. But hey maybe your right, completing the trifecta would certainly be a good thing.

well since NW we have not turned the ball over at home, and the mistakes have been less. the worst things that have heppended at home since NW was the terrible red zone perf against SB...

Would be so nice to get one step closer to the bowl at home this week, and not have to rely on doing the rest of the heavy lifting on the road. It's just hard to predict road wins. So far it hasn't really mattered who the opponent is, it's Syracuse vs. Syracuse.

Great point it really has been Syracuse vs Syracuse. Really hope we try a few different things on O take some of the pressure off of the WR's, maybe get Broyld more involved or give Flemming some pass plays or maybe a few trick plays.

This is probably as obvious as saying the sky is blue but I think we win if we do 3 things.

Win TO battle

Limit penalties to 5 or less

Don't throw the game away on ST.

If we can pull off that trifecta, then I think Doug gets his trifecta of Pitt, UCONN, and UL before we exit this miserable league.

We need at least one big play and/or touchdown on special teams. Louisville struggles there.

Our offense needs to run it down their throats.

I don't know how our defense stops Bridgewater and Co. We'll likely need to score in the mid-40's to win this one.

Yes! And the likelihood of these three things happening together is about ZERO.

At this point, I'm not expecting to see much of Flemming catching passes. He's been out there for a handful of plays, but as a blocker. Kobena hasn't returned the offense yet that I've seen. Not sure if that will happen either given how long he's been out.

Our deep passes lately have mostly gone to West, other than the completion to Lemon the other day. Haven't a pass sent Clark's way deep, although I know he's been on the field. I'm not criticizing, because our offense is productive. But we have a bit of a mistake biting scoring problem as well, so hopefully Kobena or Clark are worked in down the field. The 2 guys with best separation speed. Just complete 1 for a TD, and the safeties will consistently have something to think about.

The defense has to step up big in this one. I'm going to be out of town so you guys better yell at least 20% more than usual, that's right...I have a very big mouth. Let's Go Orange!!!!

You want trick plays? You should have been around for the old Colgate games...hot as a hooker on Colgate night they'd say.

Mizzou's offense has tanked against SEC defenses though. We aren't throwing an SEC defense out there.

You think the Big East wants it's top UNDEFEATED team to lose to a team that is leaving them next year, especially Syracuse? I expect this to be a What Zebra game, like some of our others.

I like SU to win this one - Louisville just doesn't strike me as good enough to run the table.

SU should steal that trick play from Cincy and use it themselves this weekend.

This represents the great part of the week being a Syracuse football fan...a few days before whomever we play, we are all basically like "Hmmm, why the **k can't we beat USC, Cincy...etc."

A win would be stupid BIG. From these posts to Ben's ears, hope we take down the Cards Sat.

Is the SEC now one defense because I've seen quite a few get scored on pretty frequently. Bama and LSU yes but not so much the rest.

Let's see the SEC teams they've played:

Georgia: 33rd in total defense
South Carolina: 12th in total defense
Vanderbilt: 19th in total defense
Alabama: 2nd in total defense
Kentucky: 71st in total defense
Florida: 5th in total defense

They've played 2 defenses in the SEC outside of the top 20 in the country. Syracuse is ranked 42nd in total defense, better than only one SEC team they've faced.

We can also look at it from scoring defense:

Georgia: 25th in scoring defense
South Carolina: 20th in scoring defense
Vanderbilt: 14th in scoring defense
Alabama: 1st in scoring defense
Kentucky: 96th in scoring defense
Florida: 4th in scoring defense

Syracuse is ranked 57th in scoring defense. It looks to me that aside from Kentucky, Syracuse's defense is the worst they will have faced so far in SEC play, and Kentucky is the only team they have beaten in conference. We are obviously much better than Kentucky, but to say that the defenses they have faced in the SEC is something to scoff at doesn't appear to be correct.

Big ask. We would be 8-1 at this point if we had done those things throughout the year.
